Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy book?

I'm new here and I thought I'd ask you all for some advice about pregnancy books.

My husband and I are going to start trying for a baby in a few months and I'm looking for a good book with advice on conception and pregnancy. I'd like a book that guides me through the pregnancy but also gives advice on do's and don'ts when trying to conceive.

Can anyone recommend one?

I've had a look on amazon. "Conception pregnancy and birth" by Mariam Stoppard seems popular but some people say it has inaccuracies. Is it American? I only ask because some of the terminology sometimes varies.

"The day-by-day pregnancy book" by Maggie Blott sounds great but does anyone know whether it covers conception?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Your New Pregnancy Bible. This is the one I bought based on many positive reviews. I have only probably read 20% so far (there is a lot of information in this book) but it has been very helpful. It doesn't have a huge section on conception but then I think you can find a lot of info here on this site for that.

Have you thought about getting a conception specific book out of the library?

The thing is, the basics are pretty obvious. Try and eat healthily, exercise a bit and take some folic acid. Then have plenty of sex. If you conceive easily, that's all you need to know. If you don't, you probably want more than a section in a larger book.

If things go smoothly, you can focus your money on a pregnancy book. I utterly hated the lecturing tone of 'what to expect'. I quite liked the Lesley Regan book though. She's a British doctor and quite straightforward about things!

I like "expecting better"

I just bought "Bumpology" it aims to cut through all the myths... Good so far

'What to expect when you are expecting'

They also have follow up books for What to expect in your first year... and then the toddler years.

I found their advice/info really helpful.

I have the 'What to Expect when you're expecting' by Heidi Murkoff, and I found it very understandable and informative. There is section for conception, then loong section about pregnancy (week by week, month by month), lots of great tips, then labour and period after labour and first couple of months with a new baby. Also section for illness and medication and tips for good diet and important vitamins.

I think all these pregnancy books have usually the same, it's just different style of writing, so depends what you like.

Go to the bookstore and check some books to find out book that it's not just popular, but written right for you.

That's what I did and worked for me.

Exactly, Domple, I have the following 'First Year' as well. Little bit in advance, but I just couldn't resist.

If anyone of you has a shop 'The Works' somewhere near around you, they have both 'when you're expecting' and 'first year' for very cheap. Usually the retail price is more than £10, I got them for £3.99 each from this shop. And Pregnancy diary as well (not this edition tho').

I live in Scotland, Inverness, so I don't know if this shop is in England and so on.

Thank you that's all really helpful information! I shall do a bit of research and go to a book shop to have a flick through a few.

I also really like 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' and have bought the first year one too!
I'd recommend 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler as well. We didn't have any problems conceiving and didn't do anything special, but I found it really interesting and reassuring to learn so much about my body. I think every woman should read it, regardless of whether they're TTC :)
Little tip - don't buy new books! Ebay, Abe Books and Green Metropolis are your friends! Good luck.
