I am quite constipated and after straining possibly a bit too much on the toilet last night, wiped some dark / sticky blood discharge from my bits a couple of times. I was hysterical, showed hubby before going to phone the maternity assessment number who told me as (I am 10 weeks today) I haven't had a dating scan they can't do anything and I have to go to A and E if I am worried.
Blood discharge completely went away after this and I have had no this morning. However I am still a bit worried and not sure if I should tell the doctor or wait until my dating scan??
What do you think?

Are you sure it was from your vagina not your anus? It's fairly easy to strain too hard and make your bum bleed in pregnancy!

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 10:43

No definitely from my vagina. Looked like discharge consistency but dark colour blood :(

I had some blood after 'straining out' a poo and like you it went the next day. I'm on blood thinners to reduce chance of MC so they reckon my cervix was a bit bleedy and I strained too hard but no harm done.

I had a scan a week later and it was fine. I would suggest if you're worried you do get a scan though to set your mind to rest.

Hope it's the same for you.

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 10:47

Thank you Squizita, where would you get the scan done, ask GP or A and E?

its brown so it's old. It could be left over from implantation and have been hanging around for ages.
It could be that you have a delicate cervix and at some point it bled a little and that has now worked itself out.
There are lots of things that it could be that ARENT anything to b do with MC. Try not to worry. Sit back and take a breath and see what happens next. Smile

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 10:50

Thank you Saggy, I am better today after completely dry this morning but totally hysterical last night. I really don't want anything to happen to this baby. I know I am only 10 weeks but I just would be devastated if we lost our baba :(

I have regular scans because I have had 3 previous losses (so you can imagine how scared I was... and then it was OK), but if you ask your GP they can refer you to the EPU if you're worried. My local hospital also has a drop in care centre attached to A&E, if you go in the morning, they can offer a 'sit and wait for a cancellation' if you're really worried but that can be an ordeal in itself.

A chat with a GP or midwife might be less scary and reassuring?

I usually spot in the first trimester and it is always lots more after a bowel movement. All that pushing pushes out any blood that has been pooling somewhere waiting for an excuse to exit!

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 13:59

I cannot imagine what you went through Squizita. Last night's hysteria has really helped hubby and I understand what miscarriage risks feel like and to be honest it was so shocking and painful I have no idea how you women out there cope. I am going to be broken if something happens to the baby :(

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 14:00

Thank you Crispy, this is my first pregnancy and I am pooing myself (or rather I wish I did lol this constipation is a nuisance!). I am alterning between worried sick and "it's okay, it's stopped and it wasn't much blood at all". I cannot wait for my 12 week scan. I just want my baby to be hear and not having to worry so much :(

Hmm, I would resort to manual evacuation rather than strain.

I have so been there.

Are you on iron pill, if so bin them and buy spatone.

Dried apricots and water, lots of walking.

I used to have a baked spud every day, it kept things moving.

Elderberri · 03/02/2014 14:05

Lol. Lots of poo threads.

I find that if you manually evacuate even a small amount, the bowel stimulates and the rest comes on it's own.

Never ever fail to heed the urge to go, or your in trouble.

squizita · 03/02/2014 14:11

Hubby please do not worry - ladies like me are less than 1% and the vast, vast majority of pregnancies run just fine. :)

eurochick · 03/02/2014 15:17

Hi OP. I really would try not to worry. It's likely that you've just shifted a bit of old blood that was sitting in the cervix with the straining. I'm also 10 weeks and bled for almost 3 weeks continuously, including quite heavy bleeding with bad cramps at times. But I just had a(nother) scan today and centime is still going strong.

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 15:35

Thanks for your answer everyone!
I am eating lots of fruit, drinking plenty of water, massaging the area to try to go, this is very unpleasant lol!
I have tried to phone midwives all day but it's the answerphone, wonder when they will get back to me.
I am worried, pit in the bottom of my stomach but trying to have a "normal! day :(

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 15:50

Midwife rang back, asked me lots of question, she is phoning the EPU and they are booking me in for an internal scan. Hope it all turns out okay :(

OP posts:
Elderberri · 03/02/2014 16:40

Normal ends when you get pregnant.

I had lots of internal scans due to ectopic preg.

It's the best thing really.

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 16:43

I am in bed crying my eyes out. Started to wish I never got pregnant in the first place as I am so scared and heartbroken. Maybe I should have stuck to cats. I have no reason to believe my baby is healthy and it's driving me mad. I wish I had never found out I was pregnant.

Elderberri · 03/02/2014 17:06

Sweetheart, don't worry so much.

Pregnancy is a roller coaster ride. You need to be calm, it's better for everyone, including your baby.

I have been through how you are feeling multiple times, and it's hard, you just have to try and keep positive.

The scan won't hurt, and you don't have to have a full bladder.

Try and take your mind off things.

Xx

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 03/02/2014 17:14

And there's nothing to say your baby isn't healthy sweetie. The vast majority of pgs are fine, and you are 10 weeks now. That's a good point to reach in mc terms.
Think positive. Smile

Hubbythecatandme · 03/02/2014 17:24

Thank you I need to try to be more positive. :(
