Pelvic pain

Pregnant with DC2 and the last few weeks I've been getting pain in my groin area, really low down - is this the start of SPD? Never had anything like it with DC1! Tends to be worse when coming up stairs, putting trousers on etc. and is quite sore!!

this does indeed sound like spd. you should be able to get a physio referral from your midwife.

in the meantime, try this exercise: either lying on your back or sitting, put a fist between your knees and squeeze your knees together for 30s. then place two fists between your knees, do the squeeze again. then place something longer (your forearm or a book) between your knees and squeeze for 30s.

this makes your inner thigh muscles pull on the two halves of the pelvis, helping to realign them.
do this a few times a day. mine improved a lot after about four days. careful not to stop doing them as it gets better, because the pain comes back.

don't walk too much, avoid the things that hurt (sit down to put your knickers on) and sleep with a pillow between your legs to keep your legs and hips assigned.

I've got it but a bad nights sleep cuddling an ill toddler last night has made it really flare up. I couldn't sleep with a pillow or roll over and new I can't do anything without pain.

hope the exercises and physio help you.

I started getting these pains too about a week ago. Now 26+2 with DC1. My obstetrician's response when I mentioned it on the phone was "we'll test you for a uti" which I thought was a bit silly. I am going to see a physio about it though, as I'm desperate for it not to get any worse.

I'm going to try that exercise, thanks learnasyougo.

I want to stay fit somehow but if I can't/shouldn't walk far, and some people have mentioned breaststroke as aggravating, I'm not sure what to do!

Oh thanks learnasyougo - will do them from tonight! I'm the same as you though - suspect a wriggly, co-sleeping toddler will make using a pillow at nights slightly impractical! Sad
