Someone just offered me the loan on one. Our house is small and so I hadn't considered it. Are they any good, or just another contraption that will take up space for no good reason?

One of those massive things in a frame (rather than a door bouncer)? Both mine hated them. Some children love them. Very unpredictable!

weebigmamma · 02/02/2014 13:01

Yes, I'm thinking it's maybe not worth the hassle. We really don't have that much space (no idea where the pram's going to go! lol) Thanks x

we bought one and took it back after a day :-) cheapo bouncer chair much better x

OTOH, ds2 refused to nap in anything but a swing when he was newborn up to about 10-12 weeks. It was a lifesaver for us. We I would keep it in mind to try ify

Pascha · 02/02/2014 13:07

... If you have a baby who doesn't nap easily.

drawohamme · 02/02/2014 13:10

I found that every thing I had like this would give me fifteen mins extra time when he was tiny, so 15 in the swing, 15 in the bouncer, 15 on the mat etc. this was right up until 6mo. However some bubs love them and some hate them, if possible try before you buy Smile

weebigmamma · 02/02/2014 13:14

OK, might be worth a go then! I suppose I can always give it back if the ba hates it. Cheers!

Swings saved my sanity!

CrispyFB · 02/02/2014 14:17

DC1 - Swing bought us a little more time (very colicky) to do things like eat dinner

DC2 - Lived in the swing, wouldn't sleep anywhere else

DC3 - Didn't even bother with it!

DC4 - ????

No way to know until baby arrives, and even then swing may or may not work! A non-high-needs baby could easily do without one. A high needs baby could well benefit!

SpanielFace · 02/02/2014 14:25

Absolute life saver for us. I bought a second hand one when DS was 12 weeks and would only nap with motion - in the sling, pram or car, but only when they were moving! I used to walk for miles and then he would wake up as soon as I stopped moving! Shock The swing enabled me to occasionally put him down to eat/wee. My sister borrowed it for her DD, and she hated it. No way of knowing until the baby arrives, but if it's free I would take it and see.

Thatsnotmyfigure · 02/02/2014 16:00

Fantastic!! Friend lent me one- I thought it was the hugest most hideous thing I'd ever had in the house, but when my friends were all rocking their babies in their arms mine was sleeping in the swing and I could get on with stuff! If you have the chance to borrow it I'd definitely try it!

whiteblossom · 02/02/2014 17:20

swing was a life saver for me! We had a fisher price tripod style one. Over a £100 but we didn't care by that point!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 02/02/2014 17:28

When we discovered that ds1 loved having his car seat swung we bought one. It changed my life, meant it could go to the loo and eat. He hated a bouncy seat

Ds2 didn't mine either way, same with bouncy seat

Dd was prem and preferred the bouncy seat

Ds3 wanted to be held all the time and would tolerate the swing. Hated the bouncy chair

So my verdict would be wait ' til you have the baby then swing them in the car seat and see if they like it

whiteblossom · 02/02/2014 17:28

my friend had a little swing, one of the low down ones that fold up small, she said her ds wasn't bothered with it but when I saw it I knew my ds wouldn't have been bothered with it either- not enough G-force lol.

Madallie · 03/02/2014 06:38

The chair swing we had was an absolute revelation to me and Dh. It was the only way I could put my dd down ever, without screaming, for months. It somewhat saved some scrap of my sanity over those hazy months. Although, as I prepare for birth if dc2 due on Thursday, I am aware that all babies are if different and maybe thus one wont like it. You never know this one might actually like to nap and sleep occasionally. Here's hoping! Smile
