Glucose testing in hospital

Oh grid I am sooo nervous about having the glucose testing done at hospital next week! I actually don't really know what I'm worried about! Think I'm worried about the fasting, feeling really hungry, feeling light headed and dizzy because of no food!! Just anxious about it!

I've got mine on the 17th February, I'm so scared too, fasting then having to knock back a load of locasade scares me. Plus I've still got really bad sickness which is much worse on empty stomach :(

livinginhope87 · 30/01/2014 19:49

I had one when I was pregnant and although inconvenient it was fine as you can have water so that fills you up a bit. The worst bit is waiting so bring a book. If you feel lightheaded then tell the nurse. You will be fine

I only had to fast from 10pm the night before and my test was at 8am. After it they brought me tea & toast. Good luck

I've had one for all 3 pregnancys and it's really not that badSmile.
It's boring having to wait 2 hours between blood tests tho so remember something to read.

NickyEds · 30/01/2014 21:19

Take a book and some very cold water to sip- and remember some cereal bars or something to have before you go home. They're used to preggers ladies feeling faint- I just had a lie down after the second blood test. You'll be fine- when I had mine there were other women there too so we just chatted and something I'd been worried about was actually quite nice!

steppyhen · 30/01/2014 22:13

I had mine the other day the hardest parr was drinking the awful glucose drink! Was nice having 2 hours peace and quiet!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 31/01/2014 01:25

Try and get a really early appointment. That way you are just missing breakfast. If you have the proper drink rather than just lucozade its pretty odd stuff, and it took me a bit of effort to get it down as Im rather gaggy right now, but its not horrid, just gloopy. I actually felt ok during the 2 hour wait, I just sat and read in the waiting room, but was rather bemused when it seemed that the baby got a bit of a sugar rush and went a bit hyper! Confused Take something with you to eat as soon as you're done.

Cupcake11 · 31/01/2014 07:45

Sorry to hijack - I've got mine next week too but I can't remember what the midwife told me about when I could eat. Is it up to 10pm the night before for everyone? My app is 9am.

rachyconks · 31/01/2014 08:22

I didn't find the drink gloopy at all. Though it was disgusting. Kind of tastes like when you put too much sugar in your tea. Down in one is the best way.

MummyPig24 · 31/01/2014 08:28

I thought I would be really hungry but I wasn't. And the drink was lucozade so not too offensive. It was boring waiting around for hours and my arms were sore from having blood then 3 times but it wasn't a bad experience. My appt was 9am and I went straight in for he first bloods and the drink, back at 10 for bloods and again at 11 then home.

Aaliyah1 · 31/01/2014 11:34

The drink is horrible Confused and I felt super tired after. Like falling asleep in the waiting room and practically passing out in the sofa when I got home DH had to make me lunch and get me a blanket :-/

MarthasHarbour · 31/01/2014 11:42

I am here now. Due to go for my second test in 15 mins. I feel a bit light headed but that is just because I am starving!

Watched homes under the hammer on the waiting room tv an MNing for the eest of the time!
