Stomach pains..

Just need a bit of advice/perspective.

I've had stomach pains for 30 hours now. It feels like general cramping, it can come and go.

I feel nauseous but not hugely. I felt dizzy earlier when I got up but again, not badly.

I have eaten today (not much and I felt worse after) and drank water.

I'm about 25 weeks.

DH wants to go to hospital Hmm
I reckon it's constipation or wind or something.

I have been to the toilet but not a lot (sorry tmi)

Any ideas/advice?

I know I could call the midwife but I did this once before and they were really stand offish and told me to see a GP so I'm not rushing to the phone.

It could be digestive if it ties in with eating, but that doesn't mean it isn't important. I would call the midwife again - it's their job! - and if she is disinterested in a pregnant woman with persistent, then I would see at out of hours doctor or go to the hospital. It might seem silly but I think it's been going on long enough for you to check it out. Even if you have 'just' a stomach upset, it could be something that should be treated early when you're pregnant.

*that should read: a pregnant woman with persistent stomach pain.

You should get it checked out even just to put your mind at rest.

Well, I have coeliac disease and she said it's probably to do with that. But it doesn't feel like that.

I'll feel like a right fool if it's trapped wind.

I know it might be embarrassing if it turns out to be nothing, but your pregnancy gives you extenuating circumstances! Honestly, I bet they would have seen people with much smaller problems than a 30 hour stomach cramps and dizziness.

I've had a lot of trapped wind and it doesn't last more than 12 hours and it tends to be constant and move around the stomach area. My trapped wind is a sharp rather than cramping pain too.

You know your own body, so I would think about asking a Dr or going to the hospital

Juno77 · 29/01/2014 17:09

I'd also feel a bit ridiculous going to hospital. It's not that painful.

It's very uncomfortable, it's not like I'm in agony.

Can you call the new NHS direct number for a second opinion (not that I've heard good things!)? Or can you call the midwives at the pregnancy unit for a second opinion?

Juno77 · 29/01/2014 17:12

I could try NHS direct I guess.

I could try the midwives but last time they were so dismissive. She actually said to me 'this sounds like a digestive issue - why are you calling us?' I was embarrassed.

The baby is still moving around as normal, no concerns there.

That midwife sounds really unreasonable - I went to the Drs about my hip pain thinking 'well it isn't to do with my womb!' and he told me I should have gone to my midwife about pretty much anything first in case it WAS pregnancy related. Can't win!

I can understand your reluctance because they made you feel like you were making a fuss, but they are there to check things like this out. You're not in agony which is good, but I'm worried about how long it's been going on - my DH had stomach pain like this for about a week, but said it wasn't agony, I nagged him to go to the Dr and it turned out he had a really bad case of appendicitis (it perforated when they took it out). So now I'm like 'everyone should get checked out!' - it's better to feel embarrassed or hassled than let something get worse and worse.

Try NHS direct, and maybe someone else will be along with another opinion Smile as this is just my two cents.

I add, that I am not a medical professional - just a hypochondriac!

Thanks.

I guess I'm hoping someone will come along and tell me that it's probably wind/constipation. I could just wait until tomorrow but I can't really afford to call in sick to work again. Plus I'm worried my boss thinks im taking the piss.
