Help me

I have miscarried twice and spent ten months TTC. I got BFP on sunday and Monday I am due for period in 2/3 days so its very early. I went to the GP today to get heparin injections as I have sticky blood - to cut a long story short - he told me my pregnancy test was negative I nearly died.....I asked to see it and they did another one in front of me - there were two lines - one pink one darker - I asked them why they are telling me it is negative and the nurse said it has to be of equal intensity???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I have only heard the opposite. I have only heard of this with Ovulation sticks.
I am so confused? She did say my test is more sensitive and better than their old ones at the surgery and to go with mine and ''not worry'' yeah right - I am so confused I have read many threads where it says doctor said BFN but none where doctor says BFN but there were two lines!
Did a FRER and it was almost same colour - getting blood done thurs and mon

You are right I do not know of any tests where it had to be the same intensity. A line is a line can they not do the bloods tomorrow ? Or can you take the form to the hospital and have it done there.

Armadale · 28/01/2014 18:02

I never get two equal lines till a couple of days after my period is due, ie day 30 for me, if it is a couple of days before your period is due ie day 26 for me the pregnancy line would be much lighter than the control line, but will get darker each day.

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 28/01/2014 18:05

Can't u do a digital one the one with the writing and take it to the gp and shove it up their arse???

Congrats on ure positive :-)

Armadale · 28/01/2014 18:06

I have tried to attach a pic to my profile page of my test on day 28 ie day period is due, if it works. Control line is still a lot darker than the test line

dats · 28/01/2014 19:49

What rubbish. A line is a line. Congrats Smile

HazleNutt · 28/01/2014 21:25

the nurse is wrong. Congratulations, you are pregnant!

LavenderFox · 28/01/2014 21:41

A fine, faint line is considered positive. I suppose the nurse just hasn't much practical experience of that. It is sad but early pregnancy is pretty much the unknown to many professionals and that's how they end up coming up with such nonsense. The very beginning is often the most important part even if no-one else can see it or feel it as yet.

FrumiousBandersnatch · 28/01/2014 21:42

I had EXACTLY the same experience. You're pregnant - congratulations. Your home test is more sensitive than the cheap dip strips at the surgery and it's too early for theirs to pick up your hcg levels. The blood test will reassure you.

onedayipray · 28/01/2014 23:03

Thanks to everyone! I've done a digital too all positive as was the one done in front of me at nurses office!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just one line was lighter stupid cow

I think you should tell the GP, there might be serious consequences if the tell other pregnant women they are not pregnant.

x0gawjus0x · 29/01/2014 07:25

How stupid are they lol, I could barely see my positive line, even after my period was due, but digital clearly said pregnant 2-3...and now I'm 35 weeks!

Congratulations x

Madonnaquintessential · 29/01/2014 07:33

A line is line!

grobagsforever · 29/01/2014 08:38

Shocking! Definitely complain, how could she get it so wrong? Congrats OP!

HazleNutt · 29/01/2014 08:43

they probaby use the simple one step strip tests. The instructions say:

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
Positive - Pregnant: Distinct color bands appear on the control and test regions. The presence of both test and control lines indicate possible pregnancy. Color intensity of the test band may vary according to the concentration of hCG in urine. The higher the hCG concentration - the darker the intensity of the test line, hence higher the likelihood of pregnancy.

NOTE: The intensity of the red color in the test line region (T) will vary depending on the concentration of hCG present in the specimen

So it's clearly stated that colour might vary and no, it definitely does not have to be the same intensity.

Snowlet · 29/01/2014 08:56

That is outrageous! I'm a bit confrontational I guess, but if it were me I'd write a letter or some form of complaint. You are obviously pregnant.

Or, said in a more positive way, ignore them, you're pregnant! Congratulations. Thanks

Whiteshoes · 29/01/2014 09:03

Bloody hell. Are you going to get your heparin, OP? Because early pregnancy is such a medical desert, i like to have a spare box waiting just in case!
