Is your baby quite active or quiet in the womb?

I think babies have their own pattern in the womb but this one (my third) seems particularly calm and quiet.

Don't get me wrong she does move but has long, still spells during the day and when she comes to life at night she tends to wriggle and shuffle rather than kick.

I've been checked out several times for unrelated things but her heartbeat is always normal. I also have an anterior placenta.

I'm not overly concerned but just wondered what other's experience of fetal movements is. My last baby was wild in the womb so maybe comparing it to that.

I'm 29 weeks btw

I'm 31 weeks and for the last 4 days he just hadn't stopped. Usually he is quiet in the day and becomes active in the evening but recently I'm getting no respite!! I reckon the longest I've gone without feeling movement is half an hour. It's obviously lovely but uncomfortable at the same time Smile

Mine is pretty chilled compared to others, or so it seems. Wriggles and knee-ings at the moment (36 weeks).

Nearly 37 weeks and still wriggling/kicking/head butting a lot! More so at night, his favourite time of the day since I was about 20 weeks. Pretty sure he aims for my stomach too, I get the worst heartburn at night from it!

Jemimapuddlemuck · 28/01/2014 01:30

Have you got an anterior placenta? My second baby felt much quieter than the first because of that.

middleclassdystopia · 28/01/2014 16:17

Yes anterior placenta so reassuring myself it's that Smile

Mine has on days and off days. On saturday she didnt move at all, however yesterday she was on the move all day and all night. I suppose its what she feels like at the time haha.

bubblegumgirl · 28/01/2014 17:05

I have days where I feel next to nothing (like yesterday) and then days like today when there's plenty of activity. I haven't noticed any particular pattern of activity, which is a bit worrisome because apparently by now I should have noticed one!!! I also have anterior placenta.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 28/01/2014 17:06

I am 28 weeks and this one is definitely much quieter than the previous too. I am hoping that this is a pattern which continues on the outside...

middleclassdystopia · 28/01/2014 17:34

Indeed Penguins!

My last two have been real live wires so maybe this is my placid, easy third baby!

Anterior placenta here too and the movements are very different to my last two (posterior placenta) pregnancies. It is hard to see some pattern as days are different (I am guessing this is because some days the babes is in a different position. I also have to sort of "tune in" to feel the movements as they are gentler.

mrsbug · 28/01/2014 19:49

I had ap with dd and didn't feel much movement.. I'm sorry to say it doesn't mean a calm chilled baby Grin

FredFlintstonesSister · 28/01/2014 19:54

I have an anterior placenta too, and the movements definitely feel more cushioned than the way others have described to me. She is really calm for most of the day and then starts flipping around in the evening. Right now I can actually see my bump gyrating! My sister had a posterior placenta and felt even less movement than me though. Baby now a perfectly healthy and happy 8 months old!

Misty9 · 28/01/2014 19:56

To give you hope...I had an anterior placenta with ds and this one, and ds is a placid on the outside as he was on the inside. I didn't feel him until 21wks and he didn't move a whole lot after that. This one, on the other hand, has made herself known since 14wks and never stops! I couldn't believe it was an anterior again when I found out. My friend is hoping I'll get a live wire - like her ds - as karma Grin

Misty9 · 28/01/2014 19:56

Now nearly 30wks, I forgot to say :)

LouisaJF · 28/01/2014 19:57

Both of mine have been fairly busy but DS2 seems a lot more active as I had an anterior placenta the first time round. DH has also felt much more movement this time so I think the placenta really does shield a lot.

lilyaldrin · 28/01/2014 20:03

My first was very active, even with an anterior placenta.

Second is currently a lot less active, anterior placenta again. I have had extra monitoring and scans due to reduced movement and there was nothing at all they could identify as causing a problem - blood flow, placenta, fluid, growth all look fine - so I guess I just have a quiet baby this time.

I do find it a bit nervewracking now though.

Jemimapuddlemuck · 28/01/2014 20:05

Ditto Mrsbug - my 'quiet' baby has been quite the livewire since she joined the outside world :)

IWantToBePippiLongstocking · 28/01/2014 20:14

My first only moved when i was driving or at night. (Prosterior placenta) she always stuck her legs out on the right of my belly.

DD2 and now the 3rd (current baby)were and are always hopping around and were/is anterior placenta with them. DD2 is now 2 years old and very flexible and active. Much more than DD1. I don't know if that has a bearing on it but by the way this baby is banging around in the womb, I'm expecting another tumbler when it comes out.

It was longer this time before I felt any movements than with DD1&2.

curlyLJ · 28/01/2014 20:39

I am exactly the same - 29w with an anterior placenta and lots of periods of inactivity (or so it seems) and occasional spurts of being very active. Am getting used to it, but it's still worrying when you haven't felt anything for a while, I keep jiggling my bump to get him/her to move!

Trinpy · 28/01/2014 20:47

My baby is the same. I also have an anterior placenta but he seems to be quite a chilled out baby in general. I'm almost 31 weeks now and have had 5 scans during this pregnancy all showing that baby is developing normally.

As long as it's normal movements for your baby (I.e. they haven't suddenly decreased) then I think it's fine.

Trooperslane · 28/01/2014 20:50

My crazy go go go dd is exactly the same at 5 months. Her arms and legs never stop.

Her DF is amazed but I'm very used to it. Grin

Trooperslane · 28/01/2014 20:52

Oh and I was amazed that her bony wee arse really feels the same in RL as it did when she was shoving it out under my right hand ribs Wink

mrsbug · 29/01/2014 08:17

One thing which stayed the same was that dd was most active at night, both inside and outside the womb Grin

Mummytobe2014 · 29/01/2014 10:23

Im 34+3 and my little man is more active during the day
than night, when i go to bed ge moves to get comfy and then thats it till morn (well i think so i certainly dnt feel him moving about) the mw did tell me due to the position of placenta i wld have to concentrate more on movements but i dnt feel i need to i can feel him lol! But i didnt start to feel movement till quite late 24 weeks ish
i wld say! He was wriggling about at 20 week scan yet i didnt feel a thing!
