17+4 with DC2 and felt no movement yet....normal?

That's it really. Had anterior placenta last time but heard HB at 16 weeks this time and no mention of anterior placenta, when did others begin to feel movement? Running around after a toddler doesn't help...

I didn't feel movement with either of mine till 21/22 weeks. Just as I was starting to get worried they started playing rugby on my ribs and didn't stop till they were born! I don't have a very fat tummy either, I've heard that having lots of tummy padding can muffle movements but unless I have loads of internal fat (entirely possible) that wasn't it.

Fiveleaves · 27/01/2014 19:08

Well, I'm still carrying a bit of weight from DC1 so maybe that's it!

Watching with interest. This is DC1 and I am 16 + 6 and nothing yet but saw the little dude on the scan moving around last week.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 27/01/2014 19:39

I'm only a week ahead of you with DC2 as well and apart from some gentle flutters and rumbling (which may or may not be wind!) I've not felt any what I would call 'proper' kicks or movement yet. Midwife said it's still early days yet and I'll be grateful once the baby starts kicking me in the ribs!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 27/01/2014 19:41

There seem to be millions of threads stressing about this at the moment. What are women being told at the moment?!

Anywhere up to 20 weeks is perfectly normal, for anyone. Smile

Elastigrrrl · 27/01/2014 21:00

What Penguins said.

I started feeling Sprout moving around 19/20 weeks, just when I started to wonder (mostly if gas bubbles were actually kicks!). Some say it feels similar to gas or something, but my experience is totally different; for one thing the kicks are lower for me, and it really is like someone flicking your skin from the inside. Crazy, and really, really enjoyable. Am now 22 weeks and he is a real wiggler.

I'm 20+5 and I haven't felt anything yet. I was worried as owt because the midwife asked at my 16-week check if I'd felt anything yet (?!). It was documented at my 12-week scan that my placenta was fundal posterior, but the sonographer at my 20-week told/showed me they'd got that wrong and it is actually anterior - could be the same with you.

Elastigrrrl · 28/01/2014 10:16

Rara my MW asked me the same thing around 16 weeks...why do they do this?! It made me a little nervy too. Especially since she then listened for the heartbeat, which we all know you probably can't hear at 16 weeks. Important to keep one's nerve, they'll kick when good and ready and some don't till 22 weeks.

Fiveleaves · 28/01/2014 10:39

After posting last night, I think I actually felt a fluttery movement but wasn't sure...I guess the advice to monitor movement from 24 weeks means that not everyone starts feeling them until then.

17 weeks with DC1 and 18 weeks with DC2. I wouldn't worry..

livingzuid · 28/01/2014 10:45

Didn't feel anything until well after 20 weeks. It's like a party in there now and I am 21+3!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 28/01/2014 10:54

Five - I am now 28 weeks and have an anterior placenta. This is DC3, so not as if I don't know what I'm looking out for either, but until about two weeks ago I would have had difficulty monitoring movements. I'd been feeling them since about 22 weeks, but some days I had nothing. And I rarely felt and movement unless lying down.

I think that, just because some women feel movement early there can be an excessive concern when you don't. It's a bit like worrying that there is something wrong with your child if they aren't walking at 10 months though! 24 weeks to start monitoring movement sounds like it's a recommendation that is there for a good reason!

Shropshiremummy2B · 28/01/2014 11:07

I was easily 22 weeks before I felt anything. No flutters or bubbles before that, just sat down one evening and felt a big boot!

RaRa1988 · 29/01/2014 11:52

Elastigiirl: I didn't know there was difficulty in getting the heartbeat at 16 weeks - thankfully the midwife got mine fine or I'd have been really worried! Finally, at 20+5, felt the first movement yesterday morning Grin

slightlyinsane · 29/01/2014 12:52

Previous 3 pregnancies it's was around 18wks all with posterior placenta. This time I felt my first recognisable kick last night at 20wks, I have anterior placenta and twins!!

jen2014 · 29/01/2014 14:54

penguins is entirely right. I had to reassure a friend this morning that his son is not 'behind' because at 10 months he hasn't sprouted any teeth yet...
22 weeks with DS1, 19 weeks (for certain) with this one.

livingzuid · 29/01/2014 15:27

Fwiw midwife and consultant here in the Netherlands where I will give birth told me to not expect steady movement till 30 weeks and anything before then not to worry about it. They said well past 20 weeks to feel anything is normal. So I wouldn't worry about it why are all these health professionals stressing poor women out?

mixi82 · 29/01/2014 15:32

I've been feeling gas bubbles but not sure that's baby. I'm 16wks today and had MW appointment last Saturday where they checked for heartbeat, didn't take her long to find it :) she said I won't expect to feel anything until around 20wks but as in quite small then I might feel them earlier. Got scan in 3wks which is earlier than expected but excited nonetheless!
