I'm so thirsty

Does anyone else have this? I seem to be constantly thirsty.

I have had the GTT and results came back good so I know it's not diabetes. But I was wondering if it was a side effect of something else or if it's normal in pregnancy? I've never had this symptom with my other children.

I was so thirsty when I was pregnant, and I am diabetic so I was always worried my sugar levels were high, but no, just thirsty!

icklekid · 26/01/2014 06:32

I am and if I don't drink enough feel very faint and dizzy because of dehydration...

K8eee · 26/01/2014 06:42

Mummypig I'm still like this too, had a GTT but result came back normal so I think it's just your body telling you to keep drinking fluid. I never used to be a big water drinker, but can't get enough of it when it's ice cold. May be something to do with the amniotic fluid, I don't know Blush

Yes! my only symptom before a missed period was being really thirsty! carried on for quite a few weeks and was joined by being starving at about 6 weeks.

how many weeks r u? I am 22 now and not thirsty like I was but still more than 'normal'.

MummyPig24 · 26/01/2014 07:49

I am 33 weeks now. Relieved to know I'm not just odd and others have experienced this!

I suppose the thirst didn't start until 2nd trimester. Not got any worse though.

ditto spotty's answer! both my pregnancies i have been. its completely normal, cant remember the exact number but your blood volume is increasing by a significant percentage, you're making amniotic fluid and the constant eating always makes me a bit thirsty

happy drinking!

Slh122 · 26/01/2014 08:19

I was like this throughout my pregnancy too. I'm even thirstier now I'm breastfeeding - just a word of warning! Mouth constantly feels like the Sahara Desert no matter how much I drink.

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 26/01/2014 08:23

Be prepared to wee and sweat like it's going out of fashion once you!ve given birth - happened to me after dd's birth - all that extra liquid has to go somewhere!

I got the raging thirst when bfing. And an overwhelming craving for diet coke which is hardly the healthiest thing to drink!

Jellybellyrbest · 26/01/2014 08:26

ME!!!! 33 wks & I've been like this from the start. Now have a serious juice/fizzy drink addiction which I try to control, but find fizz is the only thing which helps. I drink sparkling water as much as possible, but it's not quite the same. Heartburn is now setting in after I indulge which is a whole other issue. Just had a big juicy orange, but still have that horrible thirsty thing. Not GD here either.

LastOneDancing · 26/01/2014 08:28

God yeah.
I'm thirsty but I'm more craving the sensation of swallowing cold water.
I have no room in my stomach but NEED another pint of squash!

Very odd. Resulting in many, many tiny wees.

smearedinfood · 26/01/2014 08:30

I get thirsty, I try eating fruit as it also helps with another side effect of pregnancy - constipation.

MummyPig24 · 26/01/2014 11:04

Yes I do find that fruit helps and I definitely welcome any help in the toilet are after being constipated last week.

Don't like the sound of sweating and weeing loads after birth!

I've been really thirsty since very early on. Fruit is your friend Smile I had a normal result on my GTT and mentioned my thirst to the midwife. She said it's absolutely nothing to worry about on its own. Drink up!

Karen1226 · 26/01/2014 14:02

I can't get enough of ice cubes!

singlespeedlass · 26/01/2014 15:15

Me too!! 20 weeks and normally good at drinking lots of water but have probably doubled my intake to around 3-4 litres per day. How I have time for anything apart from drinking and wearing, I have no idea!!

fairypangolin · 26/01/2014 21:28

Yes, but also just relished the sensation of cold water in my mouth. Ditto the thrill of mouthwash! My DD is 13 wks now but I rather miss that side effect of pregnancy.
