Headaches

I'm 13+4 and for the last couple of weeks my headaches have been getting worse.

They start around lunch time and continue until bed time every day without fail. I take paracetamol but it doesn't seem to help and I don't want to carry on taking any medication if I don't have to.

It's really getting me down, I had horrible morning sickness and fatigue which is just starting to ease off but now the headaches are just horrible and I just want to enjoy my pregnancy!

It's effecting work as I just feel like I can't function in the afternoons and I'm in bed at the minute as I can't concentrate on anything I just want to lie in a darkened room.

Any help and advice appreciated. I'm not due to meet with the midwife again for another couple of wheels. Tia

I was getting a lot of headaches around the same time but midwife just said it's very common (didn't help me feel any better!) The headaches seemed to get worse/more frequent when I was even mildly dehydrated which was a lot due to sickness.
Only thing I (and midwife) suggest was drinking plenty of fluids - room temperature or warm water if you can't stomach cold water - and to rest as much as possible.
I'm 18 weeks now and as the sickness eased off so too did the headaches.
Hope you feel better soon Thanks

It might just be worth getting your blood pressure check as well though in case the headaches are linked to that

Just wanted to day you're not alone! I'm 14 weeks today and now my nausea has started to ease off it's been replaced by headaches! I wake up with them and they sometimes last all day and then stop me from sleeping. Paracetamol also don't work on me! Haven't yet found a solution though sorry!

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll just have to suck it up and wait for it to ease off. I will ask about blood pressure when I see the midwife though thanks

Could be dehydration? I use 4head for my headaches which is fine during pregnancy. It Matt be worth a try.

Ooh I've been meaning to try 4head franchini but didn't know if I could while pregnant so thank you I'll give it a go

Hi. I had the same problem. I second the suggestion to drink lots of water. Warm water was easiest for me. While it didnt always work, it definitely helped.

I also felt like there was a sugar link, despite having no problems with blood sugar/diabetes etc. Scoffing jellybeans seemed to set them off. Not sure if i imagined that but it was a good habit to kick anyway!

I too found paracetamol pretty useless but Kool N Soothe Migraine strips were brilliant.

My headaches stopped about 20 weeks. Hope you get some relief soon.

I had horrendous headaches from fairly early on. My midwife said it was hormones and should stop at 18 weeks. Sure enough, they disappeared when she said they would. 22 weeks now and have been much better.

I was going to suggest 4head too... And the kool n soothe strips... They are amazing and safe in pregnancy!

Hope the headaches ease up for you soon Smile
