Acupuncture For SPD

Has anyone had this? I saw my physio for the 2nd time and for the second time my right hip has rotated forwards. She has put it back but has recommended a course of acupuncture starting in a couple of weeks. Has anyone had any success with this?

Not for SPD but I had coccyx pain which was greatly improved by acupuncture. The hospital I'm at offers it for free and it's a great service.

My osteopath has used acupuncture on me really helped.

Hi there. I am currently having accupuncture for sciatica/spd. I have had two treatments thus far (once a week) and after the second, i have found it to help immensely! I have tried accupuncture for other things in the past, but only found temporary relief on the day so was quite skeptical. I still am wearing a lumbar and bump support belt and really have to limit what i do and how i do it, but on the whole, i can tell it is doing something. Good luck.

I had it done weekly through my last pregnancy. From about 4/5 months when my spd flared up.

It was amazing and gave me so much relief from the pain, and meant I could walk again.

I highly recommend it.

Yes it worked wonders in my last pregnancy. I had to be driven to the clinic on occasions at the end of my road as my pain was so bad and could walk home after.

I've just had it as I developed spd quite late so there wouldn't be time for me to see a physio. The pain has almost totally disappeared.

justhayley · 24/01/2014 21:37

I booked 6 sessions with my last bubba for it, after the 1st session (the next morning) it was totally gone and I never experienced any pain again. I would a million % recommended it.
I'm pregnant again & starting to get a bit sore so am def going to go for it again. If your unsure or a bit sceptical go along anyway if it doesn't work you don't loose anything, but you get a nice 30-60 mins of relaxation Smile

My physio will work on my lower back where I have issues there, but won't touch my SPD Sad She said if I wasn't pregnant she'd do acupuncture, and other manipulation stuff but will only stick to soft tissue massage whilst I'm pregnant, which helps my lower back a little anyway.

It's very frustrating but I guess she has her reasons i.e. she doesn't feel comfortable treating pregnant women quite so "aggressively". Am wondering if I should see a different one but it would be such a hassle to change now and I may not get any better luck elsewhere.

Last pregnancy when I lived elsewhere I had an osteopath who did some manipulation.. think she might have done acupuncture but I can't remember now! Didn't help much, but who knows, maybe it would have been worse without it..

It's good to hear so many positive experiences.

I've been threatened with crutches soon if the situation continues. Did you find the acupuncture helped keep this kind of thing at bay?

This site looks interesting (found it linked to on one of my local acupuncture company pages) : www.maternityacupuncture.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=4
