When to see someone and who?!

So it would seem I'm pregnant - did a test last Thur and got a BFP. Makes me about 4/5 weeks.

When do I see someone? GP or call midwives?

It's my second but I can't remember what I'm meant to do! And I went to GP last time and they were a bit 'ok dear that's lovely but you didn't need to come in' so I don't want to waste their time.

Also I have a uterine anomaly that meant I had an ELCS last time, I think they said I would be under consultant care this time? So what does that mean, will I have an earlier scan? Basically if it implants into the dodgy part of my uterus it won't stick.

I don't want to get too excited, also I think if I'm going to miscarry then I don't want to build it all up too much. I was told I was at high risk of repeated miscarriages once they realised I have this anomaly but no probs with first pregnancy.

congratulations! I was able to self refer to my local hospital online and they then booked me into the midwives however I still had to see my doctor to get it put on their system Hmm which seemed like a waste of my time and theirs but the hospital tells you to do it

They don't generally see you (unless any problems) before 8-10 weeks for your booking-in appt, but be aware that booking takes a while (mine took 2hrs!) so you may need to book the appt a little in advance. I don't think they'd refer you to the hospital until that point as the booking appt is where they take your history and everything like that.

Obviously I know nothing about your uterine anomaly, so speak excuse me if I'm talking shit Grin, but if it's a matter of implantation only being able to take place in certain areas of your womb, surely you should be ok now? You only get a +ve pg test once the embryo has implanted. Or did you mean it could dislodge itself more easily? Either way, fingers crossed Flowers

If you call your GP surgery they should be able to tell you if you can book directly with a midwife and if so how (they will send you to the consultant if needed) or if you need to see you GP to be referred to a midwife Smile

I called the reception at my surgery and they told me I needed to see the GP first, so I did that around 8 weeks. It was a completely pointless appointment where he filled in a form on the computer, asked me for each piece of info several times and got some of it wrong anyway. Hmm I could have done it in a fraction of the time online. And I hope the mistakes can be corrected when I see the mw.

I did the same as randdom - spoke to reception at my GPs and asked if I needed to see the GP or not. They said yes - it was pretty pointless from my point of view but it just got it onto the system and then the letters from the local hospital with booking in and scan appointments etc started coming through.

Equally if you know your local hospital antenatal unit you could give them a call and check.

Congratulations! Smile

Hey I think it differs depending on where you are. My gp likes to see people at 6 weeks to give colic a I'd type advice and then midwife booking occurs at 10-11 weeks.

Personally I'd make a gp appiontment to flag up consultant referral early. I'm still waiting to to in the system at 23 weeks ( I have mild form of brtillr bones) It can be slow!

Thanks for all the replies Thanks

I think I'll ring the surgery tomorrow and make a GP appt. last time round I had to explain my anomaly to a million different people as the paperwork didn't seem to be stored or passed around - I want to make sure it won't all have to be re-diagnosed.

It's a septate uterus - in two slightly separated sections. My first grew ok but was a bit squished into one side, and didn't have room to turn, hence he was breech so ELCS. The dividin bit is sort of uterus fabric but sort of not, so it might implant there but then fail. I'm lucky that I was seen by he best people in Europe (apparently) for it last time round, but the research isn't exactly clear on what causes miscarriage - only that I am at higher risk of miscarriage in both 1st and 2nd trimesters Sad

But I think if it sticks it should be fine. I'd like to know if an early scan would show where it's implanted, ie if it's anywhere near the septum or if I can relax a bit.
