Possible induction

I am currently 37.2 and have been told I will need to go in for induction between 38 and 40 weeks as they don't want me to go over. This is my first pregnancy and have no experience of other peoples inductions.

Does it mean that once I go in for a planned induction, I won't be coming back out until I've had the baby? Should my husband expect to finish work when I go in too?

I haven't got a clue and wasn't really told a lot today. Thanks

Yes your dh should finish work then go with you for induction. My experience was that I was told I was to be induced the next day and to bring over night stuff as it may take a while. So they do a bishops score by feeling your cervix. If you have already dilated/effaced etc a bit they would just break the waters and see what happens and then do a syntocin drip if contractions don't start. If there isn't any dilation yet (as in my case) they out gel/pessary thing up you to get the cervix ready enough to break waters. I think they can give you 4 doses in total with about 6 hours between each. I think I've seen that at some hospitals it is at this point that they let women go home between to see if it all kicks off. Defo not at mine though, I got given 4 doses over 2 days and didn't leave hospital. Also at some hospitals (again, not mine) I don't think the birth partner is allowed to stay until you are actually in labour. This never actually happened to me as I never went into labour as the gel stuff didnt work so they couldn't break waters. I had a c section in the end.

I had a very positive induction experience. Just broken waters in the end and it all kicked in. But it was #2. I hear #1 takes a bit more of a prod. So take a book! If you're not in labour but on a ward your Dh will be sent home overnight. So take some cheery stuff to keep you occupied.

Talk to your baby and tell them it's time to come out.

I was induced with first baby. They just started off the the gel pessary. The contractions started before the midwife had even withdrawn her hand so may not take a while to get started!

It really does depend on the hospital re partners. I was on a four bed induction ward and my dh could stay all night even though I wasn't initially actually in labour. I would ring and ask what your hospitals policy is.

Thank you for your replies. I'm back next week to check cervix and will then be given a date to go in for induction. I will ask about their policy for dh stopping in.
