Just wondering those of you that are Rhesus Negative how many Anti D injections have you had or will you have? With my last baby (5 years ago) I had two but that's because the first one was a precaution after some bleeding. This time I had one at 28 weeks and another hasn't been mentioned which I was fine with but just speaking to a friend who had another at 34 weeks because her midwife said the injection only stays in your system for 6 weeks. Don't want to cause a fuss or make it look like I am doubting the midwife it if I should be having another I need to have it soon as I am 36+6.

Thanks!

Just one for me, then another after the birth if baby is rhesus positive.

I had two with my first and one each with the others. According to my midwife its because the dose is bigger now so only one injection is needed during pregnancy unless there is an injury or bleeding. Then another one once the baby is born if rhesus positive.

I had 2, 1 for early bleeding and 1 at 28wks or something like that. I didn't need anymore or after labour as DS is also rhesus neg

I've got mine on Thursday at 28 weeks and no one has mentioned me having to have another one

That's great thank you! Not sure why my friend has had another at 34 weeks then but I head mine at 28 weeks so will stop worrying!

I think they only give you a second one now if your blood shows up as having the antibodies despite you having had the first injection at 28 weeks.

So, unless they test your blood for antibodies before the birth, you'll probably only be checked just after delivering (as will the baby) and a shot given if he/she is a different group.

Just the oneGrin
Although I usually end up with one after the birth too as I tend to have positive blooded babies

ksrwr · 21/01/2014 15:38

i only had the one

thecakeisalie · 21/01/2014 19:35

I've only had the one this time at 28 weeks. I've also ended up having it after delivering as both dc are positive. No problems with 2nd or 3rd pregnancy so it's obviously doing the job.

I did find it hurt a lot more this time than the other times, I didn't remember it stinging that much!

Pinkpiglet · 21/01/2014 20:08

I had one at 29 weeks. The midwife doing the injection said they had changed it from 2 doses to one as there was such poor uptake for the 2nd injection (as it blumming hurts!). So only one dose in pregnancy and one after birth if baby is positive.

natwebb79 · 21/01/2014 20:30

I had one when pregnant and one after the birth. I must have been lucky as I hardly felt either of them and everyone had said they were painful!

Mim78 · 21/01/2014 22:39

I also have had one only in this preg. Another only if baby is positive.

It does really hurt! But I would like to keep the option of a ds3!

bugoven · 21/01/2014 23:19

I'm so confused. I am O- blood type so should I have anti-D injection during my pregnancy? I am about 8 week, mc last year at about 6.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 22/01/2014 12:19

Yes but not until you're about 28 weeks or if you have any bleeding after 12 weeks. After the birth they'll test the baby's blood and if its positive you'll need it then too. On and any future pregnancies.

Thanks pobble
