My back is killing me - but I can't use a massage chair insert, can I?

You kno hose ones that you strap over a normal chair and plug in, and they've got rollers in them. I've got one sat in the cupboard but from googling it says they can bring on prem labour.

Any ideas on if that's true? I'm 30 weeks and have a co stand ache in my back now. Entirely self inflicted due to excesses chip/cake consumption and huge weight gain.

It's horrible though and I can't get comfy.

I'd never heard of that, I used mine until I blew the fuse in it. 39weeks now and still waiting!

I used mine all the time on my lower back and neck and it was fine. I didn't even think you couldn't use it??

It's just that googling brings up things like "I went into labour at 32 weeks after using one" or that it's dangerous with a posterior placenta (which mine is).

My back is killing today. I'd love to plug it in!

I sat in shop in the middle of the Christmas rush with one of these switched on for ages - I didnt even think about concequences! Eeek! It didnt bring on labour though, Im 29 weeks...

Would a hot water bottle/microwave beanie help ease it a bit? Or do you have a ball - I often kneel in front of mine with my head and arms resting on it and just rock gently and that always feels lovely on my sore lower back.

I have a Shiatsu one and I do use it every now and again - it did come with a warning not to use in pregnancy, but it does a better and gentler job than my DH does when he tries! I just turn the heating function off.

I pulled a muscle in my shoulder/back yesterday and it's really painful, so I'm definitely going to use it today, if just for 5 minutes.

my backs killing me at 21 weeks :-(

Used mine loads. Seriously how could it set off labour. You can have normal massages when pregnant. Don't think there is much of a difference. Enjoy x

I have used mine

I might give it a quick go then. Terrible nights 'sleep' last night, so back is worse today.

I've been in agony with upper/mid back ache and sciatica for the last 6 weeks or so, miles worse at night. I finally went to an osteopath last Monday and he did some back manipulation and told me to ice it for ten mins each night. First night after was still painful and from then on it's been brilliant - good sleep, only one wake up each night (bladder not back). Might be worth trying that if you're not sure about the chair massage thing.

loopylouu · 22/01/2014 14:29

I will think about it if it gets worse. It's because of the horrendous amount of weight I have gained in this pregnancy (I was very obese about 12 years ago, I had exactly the same pain then, but when I lost ten stone, I didn't have the problem again).

Its right at the bottom of my back. Well, where the bottom of my back once was, its now a huge shelf of extra arse Hmm

I'm using mine nightly!!
must mention it at my next visit..
OH also gives me regular foot massages, which the jury is out on as well.. is there anything nice we can do???

I'd murder a plate of mold ripened cheese washed down with a bottle of malbec
