Pregnant immediately after miscarriage - going a bit barmy waiting for hCG results

Had a miscarriage (compete/natural) in early December and found out a week ago that I'm pregnant again. Assumed that the sore back was due to impending period, assumed wrongly. So now I'm waiting for the results of my 2nd hCG test (Dr has me taking 3, each a week apart) and going slightly crazy. If this is a molar or partial molar rather than a viable pregnancy would there be different symptoms? I have zero symptoms other than being more tired than normal... This in itself worries me, at least with concrete symptoms I might FEEL pregnant. My hCG last week was 1445, I suppose this next one (taken 6 days on) should be over 6000. Gargh. Anyone else waiting? So much for having a totally zen pregnancy...

I am assuming you did not have a negative test after the last pregnancy? Please try not to fret, but I know it is difficult. I managed to get a positive pregnacy test 3 weeks after an early miscarriage. Fortunately I had taken a test and seen it was negative, so knew it was a new pregnancy, but that did not stop me worrying. The result of that pregnancy is now 5 years old and right now sleeping peacefully in his bed!

Why has a molar pregnancy been suggested? Retained products I can understand but not sure why with those levels a molar pregnancy would be possible now?

Did you have a scan with the last pregnancy? Are the scanning you now? With a hcg level of over 1000 they should at least be able to see a small pregnancy sac.

I hoe that everything turns out great for you. Being pregnant immediately after a miscarriage is very hard emotionally. Try to just take one day at a time if you can.

Thanks for replying. I think molar was suggested because of the timing - so close to the miscarriage. I had a scan after the miscarriage (as well as one before to check for ectopic but sac was in uterus) and everything looked "good". I suppose that means everything was out.

I just got the results of yesterday's blood test and my hCG is at 12,654 which makes me feel a bit better! Scan next week, maybe then someone will be able to tell me how many weeks I am.

Perhaps this pregnancy will be a lesson in patience for me!

I think that with those normal hcg beta doubling times you can be fairly confident that this is a lovely new pregnancy. Hopefully the scan will soon be able to confirm all is well. If I were to guess I would say you are around 5 weeks pregnant now! Congratulations!

Ps it is not easy having the date of your miscarriage being used initially as the date used for the LMP to calculate the EDD, but any adjustments needed dating wise would be done at the 12 week dating scan. I hope it all goes well for you. Do you have other children?

Hi Charlie, congratulations on your PG. I am currently pregnant after a MC with no period in between.

My last pregnancy was a complete triploid, which is associated with molar, (results did not come back till I was already pregnant or else I would have used protection!) I was given a scan at 6,8 and 10 weeks to make sure all was OK.

It is bloody nerve wracking, no way around that I'm afraid.

I knew my date pretty well as I tested for pregnancy every day from CD 25 after my miscarriage and I didn't get a result unitl day 33, which was very very feint, normalish line on day 37, which suggested to me I had ovulated about nine days late, on day 23.

The doc at my EPU told me as a rough rule of thumb, if it is a PG straight after a MC, they initially add +1 week to the date to have a working idea until it can be properly dated by scan. Eg if your MC was on 1st Dec, they would put 8th Dec down as last period for date calculation purposes until the scan. Hope this helps x
