I am attempting to do this at 18 weeks and am finding it very hard. My left ear kills me in the morning! haha. It is only something i read about recently but it is really what we should be doing?? x

I tried that from 16 weeks but was so uncomfortable I now just sleep however. I think there was a post on here a while back where someone said that the advice had been changed and was only important in the much later weeks?
Have a google.

I've got a "dreamgenii" pillow which I find makes sleeping on your side really comfy!

I wouldn't worry too much. The advice stems from the fact that lying on your right side can compress a major blood vessel to your heart, but even if you were asleep you'd wake up before it was serious. And lying on your back can squash your lungs in late stages. But sleep however you can get it is the main thing! If it's comfy, don't worry.

I'm nearly 29wks and only stopped sleeping on my back and couple weeks ago as too uncomfortable. If I sleep on my right side I get heartburn. Which leaves me left side, or no sleep. Usually the latter.

I've found that it's got easier after 25 weeks to sleep on my side as I'm now so big I move less! Pillow between legs helps. I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm finding it difficult too (at 31 weeks). I keep waking up with a dead arm! So I try to stick mainly to the left side, but will go for the right when it gets too uncomfortable. Unfortunately it's a massive effort to roll over now!

I have a dreamgenii pillow too but I'm not finding it much use. Infact, I tend to roll onto my back and end up lying on the bit that supposed to stop you doing that and wake up with backache!

I always go to sleep on my left side but always wake up on my back, turn over and sleep on either side! Have read concerns over sleeping on your back but like other posters have said your body will naturally wake you up before anything bad happens. I am just pleased to get some sleep however which way i can Smile

Don't worry at all.

Lying on your front is fine as long as you are comfortable.

Lying on your back is fine as long as you are comfortable and don't go dizzy or feel odd.

Lying on either side is fine.

It is far, far more important to be well rested (if possible) than to lie in the 'perfect' position. I think the advice is ridiculously oversold. It should be : if you are comfortable in any position, try and lie on your left, but if that isn't comfortable then lie in the position most comfortable for you.

I'm 38 weeks and I try to sleep on my left side but constantly wake up on my right or my back. I'm still alive and baby is still very much kicking so don't read too much into it!

mel0dy · 21/01/2014 20:19

I've always preferred sleeping on my left side, prego or not, but now that it's something I should apparently be doing I keep waking up in every position but! Or I get uncomfy on my left all the time. Like everyone says, I think the main thing is to be comfy. Gonna bring in all the spare pillows from spare room nursery tonight, and build a nest!

K8eee · 21/01/2014 21:00

I've managed to recreate the recovery position as I've always been a front sleeper. Now at 31 weeks I'm sick of laying on my sides, wake up with a sore ear too! Dead arm, stiff shoulder, but baby is still happy in there bouncing (ok maybe not so much as bouncing) but floating about, kicking my bum, bladder and wherever it can!
