First appointment?

Hi All,

Hoping you lovely ladies can help me out. I found out this weekend that I am pregnant, and I am very early as af was only due on Sat/Sun. I called the Doctor's surgery today and they told me that I need to make an appointment with the midwife when I'm approximately 6-8 weeks. I was surprised as I thought I would see a Doctor straight away (I'm not sure exactly what for, but just assumed!). I know every area is different but does this sound right to you?

Any previous experiences would be great to hear!

All a dr would do is tell you to take folic acid if you're not already, and direct you to the NHS pregnancy pages. Congratulations!

Ah congrats! All very normal! Be worth you ringing midwifes a few weeks before as they can get quite busy!! Congrats

Sounds normal to me. I had to see a GP before midwife (in some areas you can self refer, but not mine). I saw the GP at about 8 weeks and was given a midwife appt for around 11 weeks. The GP appointment was completely pointless. He measured my BP and then spent about 15 minutes filling out an online form I could have done myself in 2 mins, while I had to repeat each bit of info several times (and some of it was wrong on the print out after all that). What a complete waste of an appointment slot!

I didn't see anyone until 10 weeks! Folic acid and eating the right foods are your most important things right now. Excellent resource on what foods to avoid if you look up the pregnancy book online.

I saw GP at about 5 weeks. Helpful in the sense that I asked her to refer me to a specific consultant at the hospital which she did willingly as I'll be consultant led. She also sent me for an early scan at 6 weeks as I wasn't 100% on dates. Had booking in at 10 weeks and scan at 12 weeks.
