Contractions at 27 weeks

Hello everyone,

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my second child (have a 22 month old boy).

On Friday I went into triage as I fainted and they stuck me on the monitor and I started having regular contractions (every 4 mins).
I was admitted to the hospital and monitored further but the contractions stopped of there own accord after 3 hrs. I was sent home with no explanation. I was not dilating.
Obviously I'm very worried that my baby is getting ready to come.
I got a call the day after saying that I have group b strep and will need antibiotics during labour but that is not related to the contractions.
Since Friday I have been having contractions but mainly In the evening

I have no idea what is going on. I did not experience any problems in my first pregnancy so I feel like a first timer all over again.
Has anyone been through or going through something similar to me and can shed some light?

Thanks

Lucy

Hopefully someone will come along who's more help but from what I've read early contractions can be a sign of dehydration so maybe try upping your fluid intake.

I've got something similar going on. I have polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid) so my uterus is more stretched than it should be at this stage (almost 34 weeks). I get contractions in the evening, they are often regular and sometimes painful. I have had a few trips to the labour ward this time (also DC2, no issues with DC1), including a two night stay with steroids and drugs to stop contractions. They first started for me at about 27 weeks as well. I have been told that my uterus is irritable and therefore contracts more than normal. I have been signed off work and rest has certainly reduced the intensity of contractions. Dehydration and being on my feet make things worse. Doctors have said that at some point the contractions will turn into real labour but not to worry until they are increasing in regularity and intensity. Not much advice to give but you are not alone.

Thanks for getting back to me. It is good to hear that you have managed to make it to 34 weeks and still going! I think I'm gonna see how it progresses and hopefully baby will stay put for as long as possible. Trying to rest is very difficult second time round but I am calling on extra help.
I forgot to mention that my mucus plug went a few days ago which was a little worrying too.

Did they do a FFN test on you when you were having contractions? They couldn't do one on me coz they had done an internal exam with gel and apparently that affects the result.
If I go back I will request one.
It's so hard to decide when to go back to triage. I'm uncomfortable but not in labour pain. I really thought that this pregnancy would mirror my last one. So confused!

I had contractions at 26 weeks. At first the doctor gave me some type of magnesium to relax the muscles, and when that didn't work he gave me some anti-contraction medication. Stopped the contractions immediately. He also told me to stay at home and rest as much as possible.

It could be worth asking the hospital if anti-contraction medication is available (I'm not in the UK).

i had these non stop from around 17 weeks.

i had an irritable uterus- have they suggested this to you? i thnk mine was triggered by a cervical cerclage and i also had an undiagnosed urinary tract infection.

i had steroids at 24 weeks as they were so bad then and eventually i delivered my baby via ELCS at 36 weeks.

i found that if i laid on my side, they would stop, so eventually i stopped working and did that all day.

they were so unbelievably painful, you really have my sympathy. good luck.

I had this in last pregnancy from 26 weeks and was diagnosed with irritable uterus. I was advised to drink lots if water. I also found avoiding stress and resting helped me. I have birth at 41 weeks.

26 weeks tomorrow and wondering if it will start again soon!

It is good to hear that other people have had the same thing and managed to carry on. I'm going to the gp today as I had a bad night last night. Was up all night with cramps. No tightenings though. It's so hard this time round with a little one to look after too. I want to see if they will do the foetal fibronectin test to put my mind at ease.
You know when you just feel it's not right. I'm in my own at the moment as my parents are away on holiday and have no other family and DH is working a lot so it's difficult to take myself to triage etc.
plus i'm self employed so don't get any leave for these types of things!
