Girl v Boy pregnancy symptoms?

LH1981 · 18/01/2014 11:30

Hi, I am currently pregnant with dc#3.
I have 2 boys age 6 & 7 and although I'd obviously be more than happy with another boy, I would very much adore a girl to 'complete' our brood.

My question is, has anyone had the same pregnancy symptoms but gone on to have babies of different sexes?

Just wondering really, as at the moment I'm experiencing very similar cravings etc to my previous pregnancies. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out! Grin

Hi LH, I'm nearly 6 weeks so no idea of sex yet but so far this pregnancy is identical to dd so we'll see.
My mum swore she had identical pregnancies and had one of each.
I'd love to know now! Grin

I've had slightly different symptoms with this boy pregnancy compared to when I was pregnant with DD. My morning sickness with DD was very predictable and regular, and this time I've had mainly nausea with less sickness.

I'm not sure about tiredness. I don't know if I really am more tired or I just feel it because DD wakes up at 6am every day! I've had the same cravings, which was mainly just fruit but I did have an aversion to the smell of bacon early on this pregnancy, which I didn't get last time.

I was very hot all the time with DD, not so much this time. But, she is a very warm person, so I do think that played a part too.

IMO, some women will get different symptoms for different sexes. But I also think second pregnancies are different anyway so I'm not sure about myself.

It makes me want a third baby, just to compare!

Hi thisisme - I'm def going to find out as I'm far too nosey for a surprise!
With every pregnancy, I've craved salty, spicy food and gone off sweet stuff.

Apparently they say that salt/spice is a boy and sweet cravings are a girl...

We shall see!

I am also pregnant with DC3 and have 2 DSs (4 and almost 3). I am the same in that I'd love another boy but also feel excited that this one could be a girl!

My 2 boys are so different that I know I don't need a girl to have a very different child, but I can't help but think a girl would be lovely Smile

I am only 6 weeks so very early days but so far I'd say I feel a bit different from the last 2 times. There's been more of a gap though so it may be my memory! (Found out I was pregnant with DS2 on DS1's 1st birthday!) I am sure that 2nd time I felt much like the first, but this time I have really sore boobs which I didn't have either time before. Also had quite a bit of lower back pain this time and don't recall that from before particularly.

Having said all this, I had a friend who had 2 very different pregnancies but had 2 boys, so I guess it's hard to tell. You can't help but wonder though can you!

Will you find out the sex? We didn't before and won't again, so won't know till Sept all being well!

LH1981 · 18/01/2014 11:42

Oooh Seff, one of each then, fab!
Glad to hear your food cravings have been the same then. I couldn't stand prawns all of a sudden with pregnancy #1, in fact just the sight of them made me hurl, but I was fine with #2 so it def differs from one to the other. But my main cravings were the same.
Perhaps that's just because I love salty/spicy food anyway!! Hmm

I had horrendous ms and dizziness/fainting with both DDs but only nausea and no sickness or fainting etc with DS

Rockchick1984 · 18/01/2014 11:44

I craved savoury foods with DS and had virtually no nausea in the first trimester. 34 weeks with DD and I could happily still be living off chocolate and sweets, and spent the best part of first trimester eating constantly to try and minimise the nausea/vomiting so for me the main symptoms were entirely opposite :)

HandragsNGladbags · 18/01/2014 11:45

DC1 no morning sickness, huge early bump like a tyre, back to back birth, great pregnancy.

DC2 lots and lots of morning sickness, neat bump, felt like shite for 9 months, very fast easy birth

Both girls Grin

DC3 currently 25 weeks and we haven't found out. Being convinced twice I was having a boy I have decided I can't be trusted and so will not be proffering an opinion on this one. Suffice to say I have had some sickness, an okay bump, and felt alright ish. Have craved salt though but that may be due to my love of crisps.

LH1981 · 18/01/2014 11:52

insanely yep, definitely finding out! I'm a control freak! Admire anyone who has the patience to wait and have a surprise.
I also don't remember my boobs ever being this sore previously and I sometimes have a metallic taste which I didn't have before.

Lots of people seems to say morning sickness is worse with a girl. I barely had any with ds's - a few last min dashes to the loo in the morning to be sick but really only a few occasions. This time, I feel slightly 'icky' but no real sickness yet. Am only about 4 weeks though so plenty of time!

rockchick that would go with my boy/girl food craving theory then!

handrags that's good to know! I carried quite similarly with my two ds's - ie, huge! First time my midwife and gp told me that I would need a c-sec as the baby was far too big for my pelvis based on my measurements - he was only 7lbs!! We'd gone out and bought loads of larger baby-grows and nothing fitted him!

I had two girls and my pregnancies were pretty similar, although with DD1 I felt more pregnant in the beginning - sore boobs, super human smell, crampy aches, constantly needing to pee etc. With DD2 I didn't feel pregnant in the beginning - no symptoms.

However, my friend completely went off sweet things during her third pregnancy and had a girl.

tumbletumble · 18/01/2014 11:55

I had barely any sickness with DC1 - just a bit of nausea - and he was a boy. With DC2 I felt much sicker - she was a girl. With DC3 I was very sick so I was sure it was a girl, but no!

MillyONaire · 18/01/2014 12:00

I blossomed with my girl and had bad skin/hair/mood with my boy (I think they say it's the other way around?). Otherwise the pregnancies were much the same - and I knew from week 17 that my second was a boy and people kept telling me I was having a girl!!! (based on old wives tales)

insanelycheerful · 18/01/2014 12:46

LH how many weeks are you? Have your heard the heartbeat yet? I know it's all old wives tales but the sound of the heartbeat (galloping horses for girl and train for boy) seems to bear true in so many cases I've heard of. Both my boys definitely sounded like trains!

Audilover · 18/01/2014 12:49

I've had 3 girls followed by 2 boys. Everything with all 5 pregnancies have been the same from the symptoms to the way I carried them. 3 of them were back to back but that was 2 girls and 1 boy.
All 5 labours have been different though.

5madthings · 18/01/2014 12:51

Seven pregnancies, two early miscarriages.

Four boys and one girl, the girl was number fie. My pregna cies were allprety much the same, bumo the same, weight gain similar, pretty easy pregnancies tbh tho I did feel sicker with dd, btu still didnt throw up really same as previous four.

Would never have been able to guess gneder from preg symptoms.

My dd had a boys heartbeat..soe say the speed is dif for a boy or a girl.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

ARightOldPickle · 18/01/2014 12:51

Very similar pregnancies with DD1 and DD2. Third pregnancy very different, everyone said it must be a boy ... had DD3 Grin

sweetkitty · 18/01/2014 12:55

Four pregnancies all exactly the same from shape of bump heartburn etc

Nothing gave it away that the last one was a DS

MirandaWest · 18/01/2014 12:56

Same symptoms with both.

One DS and one DD :)

SaucyJack · 18/01/2014 13:06

Three girls. Bad morning sickness and cravings for citrus and sugar all three times.

Orangeanddemons · 18/01/2014 13:06

Well I craved sweeties and crap with ds.

With dd I craved cucumber, cream crackers and bottled water. I had to force myself to eat anything else apart from these!

sheeplikessleep · 18/01/2014 13:14

3ds's and same each time - neat upfront bump and craved pickles, cheese and vinegar. Also felt constantly nauseous but only threw up once in first pregnancy. Went off sweet food every time too (and I normally have a seriously sweet tooth!)

hubbahubster · 18/01/2014 14:07

More sweet cravings with DS than this one (apparently a DD), for sure, so that theory doesn't work for me! I went off meat, wanted chocolate milkshakes and had awful sore boobs with DS, had almost no symptoms this time apart from a serious craving for garlic bread during the first tri. Oh, and steak - so the opposite of DS!

comfyonesie2 · 18/01/2014 14:28

I have 2 boys and am expecting a girl. The pregnancies have been very similar, but one difference is hair growth! I have hardly any body hair growing at all, shave my legs once every 2 weeks max, and head hair is very thick, but hardly have to wash it. With the boys I noticed a few black hairs on my bump, which I used to wax, but nothing like that this time. Very strange, but must be due to hormones - I wish it would continue after the pregnancy too!

Theonlyoneiknow · 18/01/2014 14:33

I had pretty much exactly the same symptoms with both pregnancies and one was a boy, one was a girl. Same nausea (no actual vomiting), same cravings (pickled onions, salt and vinegar crisps). Labours were different though but that had nothing to do with boy or girl

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 18/01/2014 14:33

With both DSs I felt absolutely fine during pregnancy. No sickness, glossy hair, my skin looked healthy and almost glowing. Fabulous.

With DD I was sick EVERY DAY from roughly one week after conception - right up to the day she was born. I felt & looked like complete shite. I lost weight whilst pregnant because I just didn't fancy eating anything other than orange flavoured things (ice lollies, tango etc.) - besides which, anything I ate came back up! I was in hospital for an average of 2 days a week every week from about 26 weeks onwards due to odd BT/BP readings.

So definitely very different for me!
