Nothing. Eating was the last thing on my mind. I probably should have been hungry as was in labour for over 12 hours each time but just had no desire to eat at all. Plus the pethidine made me vomit so would have been a waste to eat anything. Food didnt enter my head til a few hours after birth and i am a big grubber normally.

notnowbernard · 17/01/2014 16:24

Last thing on my mind too

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 17/01/2014 16:25

Didnt even groan when my mum and exp went for a fry up whilst i was still in labour! Grin

MillyONaire · 17/01/2014 16:27

nothing - can't imagine wanting to eat at that point but after they offered me tea and toast and I swear I inhaled it!! I was ravenous and very grateful for the flapjacks and chocolate nuts I had packed.

SweetPea86 · 17/01/2014 16:28

I'm preg with my first and even the thought of labour is putting me off eating. And I LOVE eating lol.

I think it will be the last thing I think about.

2kidsintow · 17/01/2014 16:28

Nothing.

Didn't want to.

Couldn't have if I tried.

Didn't feel hungry the entire length of labour with my first - and that lasted from 6am to midnight,

Francagoestohollywood · 17/01/2014 16:28

I didn't bring much, and I think dh ate my sandwitch. I had a quick labour anyway, so I wasn't hungry. I ate a kitkat.

I wasn't allowed food as the chances were high I was going to have a c section.

DH on the other hand ate everything I brought (croissants , crisps, nuts, biscuits , lucozade ) as well as his sarnies.

To be fair he didn't leave my side for the long labour or the section.

Afterwards I felt really sick so didn't eat for ages - think it was dry cereal the next morning.

nippysweetie82 · 17/01/2014 16:33

Nothing to eat but I was really thirsty the whole way through labour. I took lucozade with me but I was told just to drink plain water.

ThedementedPenguin · 17/01/2014 16:35

I wasn't allowed food either as I was induced so higher risk of section.

At one point I was starving and felt really faint, practically begged for food but was given some glucose tablets so sick on. I think that's what they were, they were a life saver. Had tea and toast afterwards.

FlossieTreadlight · 17/01/2014 16:38

I didn't want food but did want energy so I took and ate lucozade tablets. Did the job but weren't lovely.

I wish id taken cereal bars, microwave porridge pots, bananas and crisps for afterwards...

Good luck Smile xx

ItsATIARA · 17/01/2014 16:41

I

ChurrosConChocolate · 17/01/2014 16:43

pick and mix! Was all I wanted apart from water - I ate a whole bag Grin

BookTart · 17/01/2014 16:43

I took apple juice and Tracker bars. Barely touched them, didn't feel like eating and didn't have time either!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/01/2014 16:45

No food, but a water bottle with a sports cap is very handy as less risk of spillage and can be dumped on bed or wherever.

ItsATIARA · 17/01/2014 16:46

I waddled out to a bagel shop just outside St Thomas's once I'd checked in to my labour room with DS and stocked up on filled bagels and Snappel ice tea, pausing briefly for contractions en route. Flapjacks and salt and vinegar crisps are also good.

After my first baby I sent DH out to the Maccy D's outside Guys to get me hamburgers and an enormous strawberry milkshake

Wildhorses123 · 17/01/2014 16:51

I sipped lucozade throughout which I found helped keep my energy levels up. Wasn't hungry in the slightest though. But afterwards for all 3 was ravenous and the tea and toast they give you tastes completely delicious! A good tip I was given was to eat a small bag of prunes afterwardsto reduce the likelihood of constipation ( you really don't want to be doing any pushing or straining of any sort after giving birth!)

Pinkpiglet · 17/01/2014 16:53

I was quite sick in the lead up to labour so needed sugar by the time I was admitted. I would advise you get energy tablets, boiled sweets to suck and full sugar drinks (I took only sugar free and ended up on a drip as I couldn't keep anything down!). My husband was sent off to buy me sweets but the hospital only seemed to sell sugar free!
You won't feel like eating much but aim for sugar and carbs for energy.
All the nice stuff is just to keep your partner entertained!
Hope all goes well with your labour.

sealily73 · 17/01/2014 17:08

In early labour we ordered dominoes :D in established labour I could only manage the toast at 8am and he was born at 4pm the thought of food was so off putting.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 17/01/2014 17:29

It does depend though, if you end up with a protracted latent stage, as I did with DD1, you may be hungry. Also bear in mind that not all post natal wards (overstretched as they are) are that good at getting food to you. I had DD1 about 4am. I wasn't offered anything to eat on labour ward. Got to post natal and there was nobody to help me get breakfast - which was served in a side ward and I couldn't yet walk. So I had nothing but what I had brought with me and could reach from my bag. I ate 6 cereal bars....

Sports top bottles of water or isotonic drinks are good. I'd avoid anything fizzy. Personally I can only really stomach water.

Lucozade tablets also good for energy.

dustingfree · 17/01/2014 17:39

I didn't eat in labour but I was very thirsty. I took water and Ribeana cartons in. Ribeana gave me a great energy boost when I needed it.
Took snacks in my bag and was very glad of them when DD was born as all I got afterwards was a couple of pieces of toast! I was starving!

ChristineDaae · 17/01/2014 17:42

Loads of water. The midwife kind if bullied me into eating half a ham sandwich about 8 hours in but it didn't stay down long so I didn't eat the other half. No tea and toast if me, I wasn't hungry for days after labour.

IAmNotDarling · 17/01/2014 17:49

Sausage rolls! Snack size.
