This might not be the best place for this but thought I'd try here first...

My lovely SIL is about 7 months pregnant with her first, she has been diagnosed with GD. She is coping well and managing through diet.

Next week she is having a baby shower, this was planned before the GD diagnosis and was billed as an 'excuse for a girly chat with tea and cakes'. So I was thinking that she won't be able to have much in the way of cakes Hmm and I would live to make a diabetes friendly version. Anyone have any good recipes for GD friendly cake or other treats?

My best friend is diabetic and I've made this recipe for a chocolate almond torte www.diabeticlivingonline.com/recipe/chocolate-cakes/chocolate-almond-torte/ for her lots of times. It's really easy to make and tastes amazing. I've also done it as a tray bake and cut into squares, which might be nicer for a baby shower. Of course, it does rely on the person liking chocolate and almonds.

Hope this helps, it's really nice of you to go to the effort for her and I'm sure she'll be thrilled. Smile

is she on insulin? i have type 1 diabetes which is extremely well controlled and eat what i please, including cakes, biscuits etc; the only proviso to that is knowing the carb content or being able to make a reasonable estimate thereof.

if diet controlled its a different set of challenges and you need to look at total carb content and GI. if you make something that uses lots of dark chocolate and cream (like ganachey type deliciousness) these cause less of a blood sugar spike than regular cake x
