Hi, everyone since yesterday ive been taking the strip pregnancy tests and every time I have taken one it has come back with one dark line and one light line. I am also 8 days overdue my period, I was wondering if it is a positive and has anyone else experienced this? Thanks xxx

Ohh how exciting! Sounds like a possibility! Go and buy a clear view digital one and let us knowSmile

They are unlikely to do a test for you unless they really need to. You'd be better off going out and buying a very clear test (Boots or Superdrug or whatever own brand is fine) if you are confused.

Congratulations (hopefully).

Well its worth mentioning at the doctors I have to take a urine test in anyway so it will be easy for them to test there and then I cant see it being a problem funds a little dry at the moment so the clearblue test isnt an option unfortunately :/ I'm so excited to find out we have been trying since October 2013 xxxx

I am sure it wont' be a problem, but I was just flagging that they don't routinely do one. And the appointment might be a little, let's just say, underwhelming.

Congratulations again.

What do you mean? x

You are pregnant. You don't need to give money to clearblue to confirm this. A second line means you are pregnant. Congratulations.

It is entirely possible that the GP won't test. I went because of a UTI in early pregnancy (sample in hand) and they didn't test for pregnancy, only for infection. The pregnancy they take your word for! You can but ask though. They tend to use the same cheap strip tests as you're using atm, so it's pointless them repeating the same test.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 15/01/2014 10:26

Well, if you are just pregnant, they will do a test (only if you need them to, otherwise they will take your word for it) and maybe hand you a pile of leaflets and talk a bit about any concerns.

I think people think that the first appointment will be lots of discussion and a 'big thing' but really it's a tiny formality. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. In fact, in many areas you are encouraged not even to see the GP and to book straight in with the midwifes. It's only once you get to booking in (which in my area is about 10 weeks) that they do things like detailed medical history, etc. You see threads all the time where women are upset after their GP appointment and I was just trying to give you a gentle heads up Smile.

If you have underlying health issues, then all of the above is obviously a bit different.

Oh no, sorry. I didn't mean anything bad. I just meant rather boring and generally very short!

KathrynAndSteve · 15/01/2014 10:32

Well I am very excited about it anyway lol xx

Yes, MN is a good place for sharing excitement before you want to tell people in real life!
