What happens at 1st meeting with community midwife?
Is midwife going to be there when you have baby or will it be different one(s)?

You will be under the care of a team of midwives, its unlikely you will meet the one who will be with you in labour prior to actually going into labour as most areas have separate teams for hospital or community midwives.

Your first appointment will be booking in - taking bloods, checking your BP, urine, medical history of you and partner etc. and will take about an hour. Future midwife appointments tend to be 10/15 mins and just BP, heartbeat and urine sample.

The midwife will ask lots pf questions about your and your partners medical history, date of last period, previous pregnancies etc.

She will probably take bloods and do a urine test as well as your weight and height.

I also got given a letter with the date of my first scan. Lots of info about keeping healthy in pregnancy etc.

it takes 45mins-1hr.

Excellent thanks!
Do they tend to be nice and supportive usual midwives?

Mine have been excellent. I know that's not always the case but i think on the whole mw ate pretty good at being supportive x

Yes they were all lovely to me in my first pregnancy (haven't met them yet for this one).

I had never met the mw that was with me in labour but she was fab, so friendly and understanding. A student came in for 30mins to give her a break, I didn't like the student she made me move to a position I didn't like.

Oh dear... lucky for her you didn't shout at her!!

At my booking appointment DP came with me and the Midwife was lovley. She asked us both lots of questions about our medical history and our families medical history, questions about lifestyle/occupation/smoker or non smoker etc and explained what would happen at scan and next appointments Etc. She then took BP and a few blood tests and chatted about pregnancy and babie in general. We were in there for over an hour! My midwife is a community midwife and sadi i will see her most of the time but may see another midwife is she is unavailable.

That sounds good, maybe I will ask hubby to come with me.

Had my booking in last week. The mw took bloods, bp, height, weight and then made an appointment come to our house later that week to do the questionnaires. I think each area does it differently. Drink before you go as it makes it easier to give blood
