Hi ladies,

I'm new to this forum, but hoping someone else feels the same.

I am 15+4 today and I am overjoyed, but I am constantly terrified something is wrong. I do struggle with anxiety normally, and had to stop taking my normal meds as they aren't safe in pregnancy.

Even now, I am sat worrying that something has happened to the baby. Everything was fine at 12 week scan, but I am struggling to cope with the worry of it. My dad is a psychiatrist and just says it's normal to worry, but it's a horrible feeling being unable to see or hear anything to know it's alright.

I just want to know it's all OK, 20 week scan is 24th Feb.

Anyone experienced the same thing or can anyone offer me advice? Have self referred to the specialist midwife... tempted to see GP.

Hi blue

I don't generally suffer with anxiety but have been neurotic this pregnancy. Was expecting to have a MMC at 12 week scan and then something to be wrong at the 20 week one too. All ok thank god. Now I don't worry as much as she's moving about in there...but in back of my head now I'm worrying about still birth and other complications! I am trying really hard to keep things in check!

I think you'll find it easier once baby is giving those reassuring kicks and wriggles. From about 16 weeks your midwife can have a go at listening to heart beat which may help too. The risk of anything going wrong now is very small. Stay away from Google! Take care x

bluebelle have you tried CBT?

Scuttlebug · 14/01/2014 17:14

I agree with Tomkat, you'll feel better once you feel movement which can be from 16 weeks but more commonly 18. See your midwife, chat to her. I'm the same, very anxious even though everything so far, 20 weeks now, is fine. Someone on here said to take it day by day and trust that it will all be ok. In some ways, the problems you encounter here in MN make it worse, you have to remember, bad things are rare but when they happen people seek advice and help on forums like this which in turn make it seem more commonplace.
As said above, the risk of something going wrong is very small. Make that your mantra! X

Thanks for your lovely messages.

I know it's not the best thing to do to seek solace on places like this, or get your info from Google, but sometimes you just need a bit of help or advice from other people.

Trying so hard to calm myself, but nothing seems to help. I agree, I am hoping that once I can feel baby moving about proper I will feel better...

@Hubbythecatandme - I started a course of CBT but really struggled with it, for various reasons, though I know it can be very effective. x

I am exactly the same, I do suffer with panic attacks and anxiety anyway but since I'm pregnant I've been terrible! Ended up,in the emergency maternity unit last week with a panic attack! I just can't settle I am in a constant state of worry! I'm worried about baby, my blood pressure too high or too low etc etc. I have now been referred to the enhanced midwifery team now!!!!!

Hubbythecatandme · 14/01/2014 17:49

Some of my friends have had panic attacks (I have had depression and anxiety but never PA) and they say it's the worst feeling ever. Our great aunt is convinced she is about to die every time it happens. Mental Illnesses are horrible!

I've been super anxious this time around (12 weeks with DC2). I think because I was working full-time and project managing our move to the US during this period of my first pregnancy I didn't have time to think about it. Plus I didn't really spend much time on forums or know many other mums. Now I'm online more and I know lots of mums so I hear lots of stories! When I hear of things going wrong it really prays on my mind.

I need to do something about it as it's getting silly now - there is most likely nothing to panic about. I'll talk to my midwife at my next appointment for advice on what I can do.

Yes I have had quite bad anxiety all through pregnancy, currently 34 weeks. As someone else said stay away from google as you will find negative stories on there. Just try and go by the rule that of the midwife or doctor is not concerned about something.then.you shouldn't.be either. You may find you start to feel better once baby is moving or you may find you feel just as anxious. Just bear in mind that all the anxiety may fuel antenatal depression, try to keep calm, eat and drink as well as you can, rest often and reassure yourself you are doing the best you can do.

I could have written your post OP. I am 15 + 5 been on Prozac for anxiety for many moons but off it now due to the pregnancy.

Been really unwell with sickness and UTIs which isn't helping my anxiety. I think all you can do is take it one step at a time.

Feel free to PM me if you want a worry buddy.
