Tiredness in 1st trimester

Hey,

Can anyone share their experiences of tiredness in the first trimester? I am really struggling and not sure how I'm going to cope with going back to work later in the week.

I'm 9+3, I've been off work for the last 2 weeks due to bad morning sickness and GP prescribed me meds. These have helped a bit so I'm not actually being sick any more bit I still have nausea. The last 3 or 4 days I have even been able to face eating again. I'm just so unbelievably exhausted. I know tiredness is normal, and I have previous medical conditions which are going untreated because the meds aren't safe in pregnancy. But I can't function. I sleep 12 hours or more every night but within an hour or two of waking I'm ready to sleep again. Even having a shower is too much for me.

My next day back at work is Thursday but I don't know how I'll manage a 12 hour day on less sleep than I'm having now. Any tips on how to get over this?

my first trimester I was exhausted, I do a physical job outside, so was able to fit in maps when I would usually have my breaks. Check your hr maternity policies as there may be an obligation for your employer to provide break out rooms where you can go for a nap, express breast milk, put your feet up.

I Askaig food having apples nearby helped me as they were ab instant sugar hit, but I have no other health problems etc... you need to try and easy something though, until the placenta is formed it is exhausting!

Askaig food was meant to be also had????

I have a 2.5hr round trip commute, spent first trimester (4-17weeks really) going to bed as soon as I got home and DH would cook dinner wake me up to eat, then I'd go straight back to bed. Weekends spent napping and catching up on sleep. Reckon I was easy averaging 10-11 hrs a night/day. It did get better but only really after I was 17 weeks!

All I can advise is take one day at a time. If you've been signed off could you come back on a phased return over a couple of weeks. That way no big shock to the system and your less likely to be signed off again which is win win for you and employers

I was like a zombie in the first trimester. I used to sleep at work head on desk during my lunch break. It will get better.
It would also be worth having your iron levels tested. I took a liquid iron supplement that was gentler on my tummy!

I honestly have no idea how I coped with the tiredness and sickness of the first trimester. It was brutal.
Just have faith in the fact that you will have energy again and take one day at a time until then. Sleep whenever you can.

Brutal is exactly the right word for it, I've never known tiredness like it!

I'm nearly 28 weeks now and it seems to be returning, no matter how much sleep I get I just want more!

horrendous. I live only 15 minutes from the office (walking). Dragged myself there every day, sat like a zombie every day, dragged myself home at the earliest opportunity, cancelled every social engagement, spent the early evening horizontal on the sofa, then went to bed (when I'd have insomnia, wtf???) and spent every weekend horizontal. Have more energy now (14+1), but still have insomnia.

I had glandular fever for 6 months when I was 23. I thought that level of exhaustion was bad. First trimester was worse. And then there was the nausea.....

just get through the day. I would go to work, come home and get directly into bed. My husband woke me up to eat dinner then I'd sleep again until the morning. I honestly did next to no cooking, cleaning, communicating for a couple of weeks. Then one day it lifted and was like being born again!

I could have written that myself! Sorry I don't have a solution but just wanted to say that I'm feeling exactly the same! I've been signed off work for 2 weeks and dreading the thought of going back if I'm still this tired! I'm 12 weeks+2days now so hoping it'll lift soon (along with the nausea!)
