so just seen this amazing looking device on another thread and need to ask questions please!!!

with DD1 (only nearly 2) we were naughty and made up bottles, plonked them in fridge & reheated to use in a bottle warmer (which was bloody lethal and took forever). towards the end the trusty microwave helped.

now, before you use perfect prep machine where do you keep the sterilised bottles? we have a microwave steriliser which does 4 bottles at a time. confused. just leave them in steriliser until you need them? when u go out do you just take an empty stetile bottle & add a carton?

also, can you use dr browns bottles with the prep machine?

I would sterilise the bottle and assemble them empty and they will be ok for 24 hours.

p.s. it is still ok to make up the bottles with >70°C water, cool them quickly and store them in the fridge for a maximum of 24 hours. If you wanted to stay closer to the guidelines then only make 1 or 2 up in advance and when you use 1, make up the next one and put it in the fridge.

We use perfect prep and we sterilise the bottles, assemble them and put them in the cupboard ready for use. The perfect prep can be used with any types of bottles. If you really want to stick to the guidelines it's a great (and lazy!) way of doing it especially at 3am!!

oooohhhhh worriedmouse an actual user... so, can I ask you several questions about this amazing coffee maker for formula milk!?! in anticipation of a "yes"... here goes :-

a. do you have to spend ages cleaning the machine?
b. how often does it need cleaning?
c. do you just add a tub of formula & set the measurement or fo u still have to measure?
d. how many bottles does it do before running out?
e. is it huge?

f. how long do u leave your empty sterile bottles?

I saw that thread too and had a look at it on toys r us website, theirs a video/utube which explains all apart from the cleaning bit but I know you can buy replacement filters for the water.

I think this will be on my list Grin

last time we made up bottles, the chilled them really quick in sink then put in fridge then when needed spent about 2 mins for kettle to boil then another 5 warming bottle up in boiled water urgh no thanks.

MrsRV · 13/01/2014 18:23

just watched the vid. I'm really disappointed you cant just stick a tin of powder in for it to automatically dispense & its just the water. had it done that I would have been sold, however, I think pre-making bottles & keeping them in fridge & sticking them in the microwave is the quickest & easiest way. bit naughty but DD came to no harm....

looks very expensive for what is basically a glorified kettle/filter

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 18:37

yes you scoop the powder in yourself, otherwise can you imagine, wake up to baby crying, roll over press a button voila ready bottle to feed Grin

do you think that the manufactures of baby food, use the instructions on making up bottle really long winded and pain in arse so people think oh Ill just BF?

I looked at a few different manufactures on line in order to just view their website you have to read a statement that says breast is best blah blah blah accept it to actually look at the site. The first sentence on everything was bf is best but...

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 18:39

it does saves sterilising a bottled container for boiled and cooled water and keeping that refreshed every 24h in the fridge. I don't have a big fridge so saves storing anything.

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 18:40

I suppose if you make the bottles up in full then warm in microwave...I know non of that is recommended though.

whereisthewitch · 13/01/2014 18:42

Asda have them on offer (online only) in their upcoming baby event! Think they're down to £65, I don't know yet if I actually think it's worth the money, very disappointing you still have to measure out formula.

MrsRV · 13/01/2014 19:30

I suppose you could premeasure out milk but then it all gets stuck in the bloody pot thing when held over boiling hot water.

They have to say breastfeeding is best. But why would they make it a faff to get people to breastfeed? They don't want people to breastfeed or they won't sell formula.

SaucyJack · 13/01/2014 19:46

It looks like a complete rip off to me.

Nothing that making up a bottle with a splash of hot water from the kettle and then topping up to the proper level with pre-boiled and cooled water wouldn't do.

WorriedMouse · 13/01/2014 23:42

Mrs rv
I'll try to answer but on phone:
A and b it tells you when it requires a clean and a new filter. We've been using for 7 weeks and hadn't needed yet but I'll probably run a clean through soon.
C it still requires measuring but sometimes when very lazy I measure into one of those carton things for out and about so night feeds are quicker.
D it depends on your bottle size but we probably fill it up once a day
E it's not as big as a steriliser.

We got it for £47 on amazon as a Black Friday deal. If it's used for a year on 6 bottles a day it works out at 2p a feed. Then I figure we can sell it on eBay. I know people say its a waste of money but I truly believe that it's not. Especially at 3am when a baby wants feeding now. Waiting for milk to cool isn't fun. We tried a few weeks of flasks and cool boiled water but it was a bit of a pain. I was one of the people who couldn't understand why it would be needed and now it's one of my essentials!!

Hiya

It might have been me that mentioned the machine on another thread.

a) It doesn't need much cleaning other than running a cleaning cycle occasionally and I also wipe down the outside most days when doing the worktops.

b) Think it tells you when it wants a cleaning cycle.

c) Unfortunately you can't just add a tub of formula, but we tended to premeasure the right number of scoops into a formula dispenser or dispenser pots once a day so that we weren't having to count scoops every time.

d) I tend to fill with water once a day.

e) Similar to a two-slot toaster in width, half as long again, and a bit taller than a toaster. Smaller than my sterliser.

f) I sterlise bottles once a day.

I suppose it is a bit of a luxury as you could do the same thing with a boiled kettle and then filtered cool tap water to top up, but it is just so easy to use that I think the outlay is well worth it.

You just set how many oz of milk, bottle under, press button, it does a hot shot then beeps, then you add milk powder and shake and then put under again and press button and it tops up and beeps when ready.

I love mine :)
