When did you put your cot together and wash your babies clothes?

I'm 30 weeks with baby #1, and have just ordered the cot, some bedding & I have bought a few clothes. We've got a carry cot that came with the pushchair we bought, so baby will sleep in this for the first few months (I hope!) but when should we put the cot together? Also, how late before the baby was born did you wash it clothes etc...? And can you use dermatologically tested fabric conditioner on babies clothes. I always use non bio on mine and dh's clothes, and have Comfort fabric conditioner (the gentle one) so am hoping baby's clothes can go in with ours?

If memory serves me right, we took possession of SIL's moses basket around 38 weeks and washed the bedlinen around that time. Acquired her crib when DD was 3 days old with pre-washed sheets. Assembled cotbed around 6 months. We didn't stress out too much about sleeping arrangements as DD mostly slept in our bed anyway.

We washed clothes as and when they were purchased / given to us. Used non bio non toxic detergent and fabric softener (although we often use plain vinegar in lieu of fabric softener especially for towels which works SOOO much better). Think the brands we used are Method and Ecover but DH is in charge of the wash so I can't say for sure.

I think we put our cot together around 38 weeks. Hard to remember!

Dd slept in a Moses basket on a rocking stand downstairs in the day, and in a rocking cradle (bigger than a Moses, smaller than a cot) at night. The rocking was great - got her back off to sleep many a time!

I washed all her clothes in the weeks before giving birth - freshening up second hand ones and making sure new ones were clean for the reasons various pp have said.

I always use Ecover powder to wash her clothes and white vinegar instead of fabric softener.

That wrap looks good Boba, might give it a try!

Expecting - some newborns just do not like the vast empty space of a cot. We intended DS to go straight to a cot but he obviously wasn't at all happy there. I don't know whether it was because he spent time in an incubator after he was born, and then spent a week in the hospital 'plastic crate' cot which was very small. we borrowed a rocking crib after a week or so and had much better results. DD had a moses basket for the first few months. When the time came to change, I put the moses basket in the cot for a fe nights for her to sleep in, before taking away the basket and that seemed to work well.

I am 34+4 and have washed all the newborn clothes today. They are on the clothes horse drying. They look so tiny and cute I can't wait to put baby in them. My dad is making the cot and hasn't even ordered the wood yet but we will be putting the baby on a moses baskettoto start with anyway. The basket Abd stand was given to me ages ago from a friend and we got a mattressffor it last week. I washed the sheets for the basket today.
