Just suddenly come on, my lower back/side on my left. It's a very sharp shooting pain going down to my thigh. I felt still feel hot and a little light headed like that feeling you get before you faint? Any ideas what it could be? I'm 24 weeks. x

I was about to come and post the exact same as you OP! I don't get the light headed feeling but my lower back is aching with shooting pains down the left leg.

Also 24 weeks. Watching with interest Smile

Have you considered the possibility of sacro-iliac joint dysfunction? Without more information its a hard one to guess at!

It just suddenly came on. Mainly on my right lower back like the muscles surrounding my spine. Then baby moved loads and the pain went to a dull ache.
The initial pain was very intense :(
I'm guessing it was the baby sitting on a nerve? I'm just glad it doesn't hurt anymore!

Does the pain come and go or is it constant?
Is there anything that makes it worse/better?
Where about in your back is it? (Lumbar/waist height, tail bone region)
Is any other part of your body affected like legs, knees, feet etc?

smilesallround247 · 12/01/2014 22:21

About waist height and the pain went all the way down to my thigh.

Sitting on the floor resting my head against the bed helped a little.
It came on very suddenly then went as quickly as it came but just left my back with a dull ache insted of the sharp pain.

HI, sounds like sciatica, does it go to you bum cheek as well?? I have had it throughout my pregnancy and it gets better with rest but also yoga, warm baths and stretching oh and my physio said to do my pelvic floor exercises more!!

hope this helps

smilesallround247 · 12/01/2014 22:32

The pain went through my bum to like the top/middle of my thigh. I didn't want to Google it as I'd probably scare myself.

Thanks for the response, I'll try and keep off my feet more :)

Sciatica is commonly misdiagnosed in pregnancy and only 1% of pregnant women have true sciatica.
I do agree with bumpie though, the best (well only) treatment for this is lots of rest, warm baths, paracetamol if necessary.
Absolutely, definitely get your GP or midwife to refer you to a physio, or go private if you can afford it.
Regular, gentle massage can help with symptoms.
You may find the pain gets worse or more frequent as the pregnancy progresses but if you follow the advice of the physio it should resolve after the birth.

I'm just glad its nothing serious. One of the many joys of pregnancy eh?.Thanks for all the responses. I really hope it doesn't reappear or get worse (wishful thinking, perhaps :p) thanks again :)

It may be worthwhile searching 'pelvic partnership' and explanationa for various symptoms of pelvic girdle pain (pgp). If it is that it is not particularly dangerous, just hugely annoying.

My friend has sciatica and said it sounds like that. I am going to mention it to MW next week. Smile
