In the first place, I apologise sincerely if this post is insensitive - I wasn't sure where was best to post but will ask for this to be moved/deleted if posting it here is deemed inappropriate or upsets anyone.

I got pregnant in Aug 2011. My DP and I were using the withdrawal method and then I went on the pill - at about the same time I now know I became pregnant.

I didn't then find out I was pregnant until early December. I know how daft that sounds but I had no real symptoms - no periods (but I was running my pill packs together so didn't expect one) and and very minimal weight gain (say 2-3lbs, at a time when I was underweight anyway and trying to put a bit of weight on). I did feel a bit nauseous but put it down to the pill, which was a new brand for me and a known side-effect. I did do a pregnancy test to be on safe side and it was negative.

Whilst still taking the pill I started bleeding early November. This was like a normal period and lasted a good week. Fed up with the pill and what I thought were it's side-effects I stopped taking it. Six weeks later, I did another pg test as no period, and it was positive - so I presumed I was about 6/7 weeks gone(as did Dr!). A scan two weeks later showed DD,18.5weeks :)

DD was born in May 2012 and thank god, seems fine. Another worry had involved my bi-monthly Humira injections for ankylosing spondylitis (which I'd stopped immediately I knew I was pg).

My question (after all that!) involves the bleed I had at about 10 weeks. I don't know why that happened and never explored as we were just so worried/focused on DD and finding out so late.

It's on my mind now as it might be time to think about ttc number 2. Obviously it's something I can ask the dr but I wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar? Could I have miscarried a twin? Or just a pill-thing?

Sorry this is so long!

Not really qualified to answer this, but I would expect it to have been a pill thing, and to be honest you will never really know. But sound like you had a lot going on at the time, and the pill would have been my explanation, hopefully someone better that me might answer this better for you :0) good luck with try for number 2 x

I don't think you will know. But a lot of people have bleeds during pregnancy and go on to carry healthy full term babies. So it could just be that. Or it could be pill related. Or it could be something else your doctor might suggest.

Thank you both so much for taking the time to reply (and for the good luck with #2 wishes!). I think you're both right and I'll never know, but I too always thought it was just a pill thing. As stressful as it was finding out about our wonderful surprise so late, in a way I'm glad as having that bleed whilst knowing I was pregnant would have been so scary. I'll speak to the dr if and when I'm lucky enough to get pregnant again but with no expectations. Thanks again

I bled at 7 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. The first two bleeds were just minor and considered normal in early pregnancy. The bleed at 14 weeks was more serious as I had a huge gush of fresh, bright red blood. I went straight to hospital and examined etc but a reason was never found. I'm 29 weeks now and still haven't had an explanation. I don't fret over it though, everything seems fine now and so I have just put it down to a freak, one-off occurrence.

I had several bleeds between 6 and 10 weeks, completely unexplained. Upon speaking to my friends and family, several of them also bled in early pregnancy. My mum had 2 very normal periods before she discovered she was pregnant with my brother!
