Should I be buying babygros that have legs and feet for an April baby? I bought a pack yesterday that have long arms and no legs, I also have a couple of pairs of bottoms that have feet but am just clueless on what clothes I need and what you dress a newborn in!
Thanks

Long arms and no legs are long sleeved vests. I would probably not buy any more of these as you are heading into summer. Instead I would buy short sleeved/ sleeveless vests and also baby gros which have legs and feet in as unless it is very hot, baby will need layers on their legs.

Considering it was snowing last April... Hmm

You basically normally dress a newborn in an extra little layer compared to you. So if you would be wearing jeans, t-shirt and cardie (common in April) they would wear vest, babygro (long sleeves and long legs) and a light cardie. Or of course you could have long sleeved vest, little t-shirt and trousers instead of babygro and vest.

DD1 was April and wore short sleeved vest, babygro and cardie for the first few weeks. No cardie on warmer days or in warm houses.

But as Sleepthief said, it will depend on this year's weather. In 2011 it hit 30 degrees in March. In 2013 it was snowing in early April. Obviously those need different clothes!

My baby is due in April too and this is exactly why im panicing about clothes! im also in a state about whether to get newborn or 0-3. decisions decisions!

I wouldn't worry too much. Newborns spend so much time cuddled up and sleeping that if we had a really cold spring you could just give them an extra blanket, a cardi, and/or a hat.

In preparation for ds I got both newborn and 0-3 babygros and vests, but almost all of them were second-hand so it didn't cost much. Try searching for baby sales local to you (nct ones for example). You can pick up some real bargains, and get a lot of ideas.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 12/01/2014 13:41

No, don't worry. Short sleeved vests, babygros and cardies and you will be fine for most weathers. Newborns spend most of their time inside (where it is warm), in the car (where they mustn't have bulky layers anyway, so tuck blankets on top) or in the pram (where it is easy to layer up with blankets).

If we have a freak 30 degree spell, the baby can just wear a vest, or if you like you can pop to ASDA or wherever for a few shorts and t-shirts. I wouldn't buy those in advance on the off-chance.

We only had 0-3 for our kids, but my smaller one was 8 lb so that might count for something!

0-3 month is a better idea. you can go down in size but not up. if you buy newborn and they are too big its a waste but if you get 0-3 and they are too small then they will grow into them (and a quick trip to the shops means theyl only be in baggy clothes for a day or 2)

Yes, what you are describing is a vest, sometimes labeled as a bodysuit. One pack of long sleeved is fine in case it is still chilly at night. Get a couple of packs of short sleeved popper vests too.
A babygro tends to be called a sleepsuit on the packet. It is an all in one garment with long arms and legs and feet. It goes over the vest/bodysuit. For a newborn this is the ideal garment for day and night. Might need a cardigan over the top.

Sleepthief · 12/01/2014 14:00

I'd get a mix of newborn and 0-3m - DS4 (1 week old) was 8lb 9oz, but is in newborn as his little chicken legs get lost in the 0-3m babygros Smile

TarkaTheOtter · 12/01/2014 14:05

My dd and ds were 7lbs ish at birth and even newborn is/was a bit big at first.
I wouldn't bother with anything other than no/short sleeved vests and sleepsuits in the first two sizes. Plus hat and cardi and blankets.

SaucyJack · 12/01/2014 14:09

Team the long-sleeved vests and the footed bottoms you've already got to make outfits. Cover all skin from the neck down.

But yes, we had snow last April. Your baby will need a vest/bodysuit (this) and a babygro/sleepsuit (this) over the top as a minimum.

Babies are used to living in a womb temp (geddit!) of 36 degrees. April in Britain will be absolutely arctic to the poor thing.
