I've been to triage 4 times this pregnancy with reduced movements and the traces have been fine every single time.
Last time the midwife told me she thinks I'm just not 'recognising the movements.'
I've been laid on my side since I woke up 2 hours ago and still nothing.
I'm 37+3.
Do I ring triage or give it a little longer? This is my 5th episode of reduced movement.

go in.
take your bag and something to read.
good luck.

The policy at my hospital is if you have had two episodes of reduced movements, even if they can be seen, and heard on the monitor, that you will be induced. Go in, it's better to go and everything be ok than sit at home and it not be. It doesn't matter if it's your fifth time, if you are worried, you are worried xx

Christmascandles · 12/01/2014 09:29

Have you drunk some very cold water, that sometimes does the trick...
Don't be put off by the mw comments previously. If you're worried then go in and be checked. Thanks

Rockchick1984 · 12/01/2014 09:29

Have you tried things to get baby moving - cold can of coke or something? Also make sure while you're lying there you are physically counting the movements as I know for me I didn't notice how many movements I was actually getting!

If you're still worried then obviously go in!

Slh122 · 12/01/2014 09:32

No forgot about the ice cold trick Blush maybe a can of coke will shock baby awake! I'll try that now, thanks :)

Good luck :) the most effective I ever had (accidentally!) was eating a sherbet fountain - I've never had such a kicking before or since Grin

dannydyerismydad · 12/01/2014 09:37

Hot chocolate always worked for me to send baby a bit wild!

Any episode of reduced movement needs investigating. Just go in. The midwife who spoke to you was probably trying to be reassuring, but it was a terribly irresponsible thing to say.

MrsVDB · 12/01/2014 09:43

Have you tried a cold drink then lieing down? Something sugary?

I found around 37w movements felt less and went and got monitored and all was fine. Think there's less room for them to move so it doesn't feel as obvious. Still doesn't feel like it used to but getting used to the new less obvious squirms rather than kicks.

If your still worried then go in

EATmum · 12/01/2014 09:43

I remember being advised to eat something, which often worked.

Slh122 · 12/01/2014 09:48

Just rang triage and I'm going in for monitoring.

Good call! Take snacks and something to read. I was in for regular monitoring - weekdays I was in and out in an hour, but weekends I could be there all day Hmm

PenguinsDontEatKale · 12/01/2014 09:59

Hope all is ok.

One thing I would say is that it is worth being aware if you baby has a pattern. There are a couple of times a day when I have been really unlikely to get any movement out of mine. I assume that they were preferred nap times! I mean, I might have got one wiggle if I tried every trick in the book, but generally nada. So I concentrated on looking for movement at times I expected activity.

That said, that is only useful in terms of general awareness. If you have any, any, any concerns you should always go in.

Slh122 · 12/01/2014 10:10

Penguins - no set pattern really. 98% of the time I can put my hand on my side and feel a strong movement within 10 minutes or so which is this is worrying me. I'm scared the baby has something wrong with him that hasn't been picked up on scans :(

OP posts:
PenguinsDontEatKale · 12/01/2014 10:47

It is really unlikely. Remember that they spend a lot of their time asleep Smile. I know it's only one story, but both my girls spent a lot of time asleep and quite still (and others going mental!) and both are fighting fit. This baby seems to follow the same pattern.

You are absolutely, totally doing the right thing getting any concerns checked out. Far better safe than sorry.

Good on you for going in. Don't be put off because of what the midwife said. It's your baby and your body, you know your little ones movements better than anyone and if you feel something isn't right it's better to be go and put your mind at rest. Hope everything is ok Thanks

Shellywelly1973 · 12/01/2014 16:47

How's things op?

HomeHypno · 12/01/2014 16:51

Go in and get it checked, they also need to book you in for a scan to check placental circulation and fetal wellbeing because you have had several episodes of baby not moving. It is very bad advice to say you are not recognising the movements, the baby lives in your tummy and if they are not moving, you are the only person who can tell.

Slh122 · 12/01/2014 22:59

Sorry everyone - just got round to updating now.
Everything was fine at the hospital, the midwife I saw this time was lovely and she told me every single time this happens it's very important that I come get checked out.
I'm going for a scan in the morning and then the consultant wants to see me - possibly regarding an induction?!
Baby's moving lots tonight. Think he just gets lazy and can't be arsed to wake up sometimes Grin

great to hear your news.
agree it might be time for an induction so better take The Bag with you tomorrow.
good luck!

Slh122 · 12/01/2014 23:14

The Bag is in the car ready to go mousmous
Do they actually let you take the baby home with you?!

mousmous · 12/01/2014 23:25

of course they do :)
you are going to be a mum Wink

charchar2102 · 08/11/2022 23:12

Hey guys,
So tonight, I went in for my 4th episode of reduced movements. Everything looked fine and I had a routine growth scan yesterday which was also fine. The midwife said that due to this being my 4th episode, the doctor wanted to make a plan with me. But due to an emergency that the doctor had to attend, I was sent home and told the doctor would call me tomorrow to come up with a plan. Does anyone have any indication of what this plan could be? I’m 36+5 btw.
