Will I be allowed a Waterbirth?

I'm going to ask my midwife this when I next see her but I'm curious to whether or not I will be allowed one..

Some may have read other posts from me.. I've had a cervical stitch placed at 17/18 weeks due to lossing my son in 2012 at 22weeks 2days and my cervix was shortening quickly this pregnancy. I'm now 22weeks 3days and if all goes well stitch will be removed at 36weeks and my consultant thinks I will go into labour within a week. At 36+ weeks after a cervical stitch and a previous pregnancy loss will I be allowed one? I wanted one with my first but obviously couldnt. Thank you in advance Smile

I would suspect it depends on a number of factors. If you go into labour before 37 weeks you'll still be considered preterm so generally water births will be outthen. After 37 weeks it would depend on if there are any complications that mean you're baby needs to be monitored constantly in labour as obviously this wouldn't be possible in the water.

I don't know about pre-term labour but some hospitals do have equipment that allows for continuous monitoring whilst in the water. They certainly had it where I gave birth. It's worth asking about and then if they agree to it, getting your consultant to put something in your notes about it so someone else can't turn round on the day and tell you you can't have it as some staff can still be reluctant.

That was rather garbled and badly punctuated but hopefully you get my drift. Smile

Thank you for the replies, I have done some research and some woman have gone on to have a natural laboir how they wanted and some havent. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when I go into labour (consultant thinks before 30weeks) and whether things go well. Just spoke to my partner and he said he'd prefer me to give birth on a bed so there is close monitoring invade something goes wrong (don't think my hospital has water monitoring). But obviously he said its my decision and he will stand by what I choose. I think bed may be best due to my first labour, but only time will tell Smile

Ask the staff at the hospital. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I've had 2 water births but in a MLU so very low tech.

Best of luck!

Is it true that you can't have a water birth if you are induced?
