How many bottles do I need?

And what sizes? I'm going to attempt to bf, but I don't think I'll get on with it tbh, but I want to give it a go for the first few days if I can.

Formula will definitely be used, but I have no idea how many bottles we need. We've got a few 4oz ones, which I'm guessing will be ok for the early couple of months? But then they'll be ok for just water?

6 9oz ones should be enough.

And they should last the entire time? I've got new teats if I need them but the bottles don't go brittle? I've bought Phillips Avnet ones

Mine didn't go brittle. You can always replace as you go if they do, it won't be anytime soon though.

I had 8, 9 oz bottles. Stetilized 4 at a time. With my last dc I never bought any more just replaced the teats regularly.

I read you're not meant to give them water but unsure how accurate this is!

Bakerof3pudsxx · 11/01/2014 20:46

I had 4 4oz avent and 4 9oz

Dd is 9months and we are still using the same 9 oz bottles just with new teats, they are in great condition tbh

Bakerof3pudsxx · 11/01/2014 20:47

If it's very hot or baby is talking solids they do need some water

Obviously by solids age you can use a cup

I think formula fed babies need water more than bf

We had 3 4oz bottles which lasted all of a month before DD was taking bigger feeds (she was over 9lb born and Bf for 1st fortnight). I replaced them with 6 8oz Avent bottles which lasted till she was off bottles. They're still in good condition tbh, and if I hadn't wanted to make sure I had BPA-free ones I would be re-using them (with new teats) for DC2 due in 4 weeks.
This time I haven't bothered with the 4oz bottles as I am expecting another bigger baby and hoping to bf at least initially. 6 bottles was 24 hours worth even at a few weeks for my baby and that was enough.

FF babies do need to drink water when the weather is warm. bF babies are not supposed to need to as your milk contains everything they need. At least that's what I was told!

I would get 8.. We tried to manage on six and it was a right faff.

Our dd ate and still eats small amounts, often, so any less than 8 would be a real headache.
