Expecting DS when DD will be 20 months.

We have pretty much all the 'basics', including a sling which I think will come in handy, and have just bought a second hand double buggy.

Just wondering whether there are any parents of 2 out there with tips of good things to buy for managing 2 under 2?

e.g things to entertain DD while bf, things to make trips or bath time with 2 easier?

TIA Smile

Do a basket of toys that's come out at special times eg feeding, bathing baby etc.

Will probably get frowned apon by some but my DS has really gotten into watching Pixar animated films (Nemo, Cars, Toy Story, Monsters inc etc) recently and DC2 is due next week. DS is 2.2yo and will happily watch any one of these films along with playing with his toys so my plan is to let him watch these when breastfeeding as i will go mad if i have to sit through too much cbeebies. So if your DC shows an interest it may be worth getting a couple on dvd or recording off Sky.

Has been a godsend in these last couple of weeks of pregnancy as well when i've been on strict orders to rest.

Great tips, thank you. I am a bit worried about the bf to be honest. Have thought about getting a baby doll she could 'feed' but not sure that will work. She quite likes Peppa though so will download some episodes in preparation.

Does anyone have any tips on bath time and what might help bathing 2?

Also, any activities / classes that work well for toddler plus baby... Playgroups of course, but wondering if there's anything else...

Thanks again

Peppa Pig isn't long enough..3 mins only. Try and get her into Ben and Holly. Funnier and 10 mins long.

Get a mini baby doll from wilkinsons. Its a nice idea to feed at same time but the novelty will soon wear off.

Bath them separately for now and cut down the amount of times. I'd bathe 20mth old first and get her settled in room listening to a CD story whilst you do the other one. Then in for proper story when finished.

Agree with oadbc . I bath my two year old first and get them settled in their room then bath baby . I was doing it the other way round at first and it didnt work at all as my toddler was getting too near to baby in bath and jumping etc so it was quite stressful . Flipped it and stress free . Also agree with Disney films :)

Thanks re bathing advice. Can I ask what happens after the baths? Do you then read them a story together, and which one do you settle to sleep first? DD still gets a bottle at bedtime which we probably need to drop.

Having trouble picturing it all!

Yes! Do not record/sky plus short children's programmes. He won't be able to put a new one on and being needed every 3 minutes will drive you potty. Worth investing in a DVD where you can 'play all' if he likes Peppa Pig or whatever!

With bedtime, depends really if you are doing bedtime alone a lot. I did a fair bit. DD1 was quite a good sleeper, so I did bath together, story whilst bf-ing, put her to bed first and then had time to settle the baby. It is harder if two need settling and you are on your own. I think most friends in that situation settled baby whilst toddler watched tv, then did bedtime with toddler. Makes for a more drawn out and exhausting bedtime though!
