I wonder whether any of you know if it is possible to gain or benefit in any way in terms of paternity leave if you are a father who is self-employed/ contracting (paid by their own company)? thanks.

If it is your own company, you set the rules. You can determine the paternity leave period and if there is to be any pay.

Your only consideration should be ensuring that you meet the contract your company has with its client.

Nup, nothing for self employed fathers. Even if there was it would only be 134 per week. Most people who are self employed would be better off doing a few hours work during the time off

My DH is in this position as a contractor employed by his own company for pay purposes.

If you are employed by your own company you are also an employee so you can, as an employer, claim SPP for yourself as an employee IYSWIM.

There is a form to send off for on the HMRC website.

thank you for your advice. see what you mean about working a few hours which would provide the income equivalent to SPP.

will also look intk the hmrc form.

thanks again!!
