I'm an old hand, got teenagers, breastfed for years, but my breasts arw being weird and its freaking me out a bit.
I'm not sure how to describe it, but around a third of the area of my left breast, a bit like if you marked it with a Y with the nipple at the nipple and this being the bottom segment nearest the other breast, does that make sense?? looks and feels a bit strange.
It feels like the skin is thicker? or maybe there is a thin layer of something right under the skin. It goes right from the crease underneath to the areola and the areola feels thick and lumpy too and my nipple is quite flat. It's not painful at all, it just feels weird.
There is a certain amount of the same on the right breast, but not as big and not near the nipple.
I was wondering if it was because I'm still in my normal bra and its very slightly snug, but the left is actually the smaller breast. I mentioned it to the midwife but she seemed a bit Hmm . Anyone else have this? Or should I freak out? Confused

My boobs feel differ this pregnancy too (dc3). I'm also wearing my normal bras still, underwires at 20 weeks. Can't stand the thought of going without support, I'm a 36gg normally and they are quite inflated already (dh is thrilled love him!)

The fact that it is on both breasts to varying degrees would reassure me that this was just a case of pregnancy hormones doing weird things, and nothing more sinister. But might also give me a push to finding a decent maternity bra. Have you got somewhere nearby that could measure and fit one properly?

If in doubt I would get your gp or health professional to check it out- you never can be too careful and good to have peace of mind :-)

Is there are breastfeeding group running nearby that you could pop in? Breastfeeding workers know lot about boobies...! Obv there is also the breatfeeding network and LaLecheLeague telephone lines.

A GP is anothe good option, if you push it a bit they might send you for a screening clinic and use ultrasound to have a look at what it is. I have had this done because I have harmless lumps in my breasts but without a check you can't rule out cancer, either. It was very quick and easy and I didn't need to have a mammogram (would not have wantes to have my titties squashed like that, anyway).

Thanks guys. I do need a maternity bra, I just have massive norks and no Bravissimo near by.
I am also reassured by the fact that it's on both sides but I will go to the GP as well. Better to be safe than sorry. I have no idea about a local BF group, I'll have to have a look.
I'm sure it's probably nothing, but I do like to have something to worry about. Wink
