Posterior Placenta / 17+2 no movement yet

Hi all, I have got myself in a bit of a state because although I know my placenta is at the back I am not feeling anything yet. 16 week midwife apt 1.5 weeks ago and heartbeat etc all fine. My history is 3 previous mmc's / mc's and a bad bleed with this pregnancy at 13 weeks where I was told I was definitely losing the baby but the sister at epu had made a mistake and actually a scan the next day showed all was fine and the bleeding was not from in the uterus, I think it was cervical erosion. Anyhow, anyone with posterior placenta that can give me any reassurance about movement. This will be my first child

I can't really help, but just wanted to assure you that you're not alone: I'm 18+1 with first child, though I've had a previous mc too, and I haven't felt any movement yet. My placenta is fundal posterior so definitely shouldn't be getting in the way, and I'm starting to worry though, like you, the heartbeat was really strong at 16 weeks. I've read about plenty of people who haven't felt movement till 20-22 weeks, so I'm clinging on to that. Also, neither of us actually know what foetal movements feel like, this being our first time! I've felt a couple of things that could be movement, but I really haven't a clue.

Hi - I'm pregnant with my first baby and have posterior placenta and didn't really feel any movement until around 20 weeks and then only very small. I'm now 24+4 and am feeling proper kicks. I think it's normal (from what I've read) with the first baby to feel them later, say 20-22weeks. I wouldn't worry. I remember it felt like ages between hearing the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment and feeling any movement but I really think it is perfectly normal. As I say this is my first time so other people may have better advice but hope that helps x

thanks rara, I'm with you on thinking I might have felt something but then I think I am just imagining it because I want it to be! Hopefully lots of posterior placenta people will come on here and tell us they didn't feel anything until 20 weeks ish. My 20 weeks scan is two weeks on Thurs, I might end up popping in to see the midwife before then!

Thanks Cuckoo, that does help :-) doesn't help that I work with at least three other pregnant ladies, one of whom tells me she had daily movement from 16 weeks and with my history I am a total worrier!

Try not to worry too much, although this will be my first too, I'm not expecting any movement until around 20wks as a couple of my friends are expecting their first and it was the same for them. It's perfectly normal and if you've had a scan with no problems then everything will be fine, I'm sure :) do let us know when you feel a kick though!

Gosh 17 weeks is very early to be feeling movements, whether or not the placenta is posterior.

I think I was about 20 weeks with DD1 before I really felt anything.

I had an anterior placenta this time and can't even remember when I felt anything, but even now at 25 weeks the movements aren't reliable. I only feel them when right to each side or down low.

Please don't worry. Some people like to boast repeatedly about how early they felt movement like it's some sort of mad competition. IME, these are the same people who will tell you endlessly how alert their week old baby was, how their baby could roll/sit up/hold their head ridiculously early. Smile

Penguins funnily enough it's my super smug SIL that told me how she could feel her DC1 from 14 weeks. Luckily for my sanity I tend to ignore her. OP try not to worry too much, the people I know who are 17 & 19 weeks with their first haven't felt anything yet, nor have I at 16+1 and from all I've read I wouldn't expect to until 20 - 22 weeks.

pgchimp · 10/01/2014 18:14

beatrix I am 18+6 with my first after a mc and I haven't felt anything identifiable, ie anything that might not also have been wind (of which there is of course a lot!). as others have said, I think that is

Have you seen the thread for those who are pregnant after Mc? it is full of very supportive ladies who have experienced similar peppered histories.

pgchimp · 10/01/2014 18:15

managed to post half way through. I meant I think that is normal!

Beatrixemerald · 10/01/2014 18:29

Ladies thank you, your reposnses made me want to cry with relief. Pgchimp , I am still too paranoid to join any threads, on the surface im doing great, I think the hospital admittance at 13 weeks has totally taken away any peace of mind I was starting to feel. I definitely have a growing bump though

Dont worry you will feel it soon enough! When I really felt my first proper movements I realised I had been feeling them for a while and not put 2 and 2 together, even though I was desperate to feel something!

It is hard not to worry but if it helps give you peace of mind, they wouldnt consider worrying about it from a medical perspective unless you hadnt felt something by about 26 weeks (I think anyway!) and between 17 and 26 weeks in pregnancy is like a lifetime.
