I am 6w+4 and for the past 48 hours I have felt nauseous almost nonstop. I wake up feeling like I'm having a really bad hungover, I don't know what to do with myself during the day because this feeling sick just doesn't seem to go away and even when I am eventually sick I don't even seem to be getting any relief :s
How do / did you cope with this?
The prospect of feeling like this for weeks makes me really miserable :(

Mine went at 14 weeks. The only thing that worked for me was continual small sips of water throughout the day and sucking strong mints. I also found it worse when tired so started going to bed an hour earlier.

iloveweetos · 10/01/2014 13:54

Mine stopped at around 14 weeks too. But between 12-14 weeks I had about 2 days where I almost felt like my normal self but then felt even worse than usual the day after. Only thing that helped was toast and sugary tea. Just find what works for you. Small meals often, snacks (tuc biscuits were amazing) and drink as much as you can. Even if only ribena. It's horrible but it does get better!
If you can't keep anything down for a while and don't feel right don't hesitate to go to the Gp.

My sickness started at 7 weeks and started getting better at around 14 weeks too (I haven't actually been sick since 18 weeks). Eating little and often worked best for me - it's hard because it is probably the last thing you feel like doing but try something plain like toast or a digestive biscuit, I found cereal bars quite handy and also mints as suggested above. It might also be worth buying some travel bands - I still wear mine when in the car (now 24+4) but have always suffered from travel sickness anyway. I really sympathise as I know how horrible it feels but you will get through it and it will all be worth it. Just take it a day at a time. I also found carrying sandwich bags/freezer bags everywhere helped as I knew that if I had to be sick I could use them and didn't have to stress out about finding a toilet!

Mines started at around 6 weeks and went around 14 weeks. I found being tired or hungry made it worse. Anything carb based was about all I could stomach.

Will get better even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Hubbythecatandme · 10/01/2014 16:43

Thanks very much for that, it really helps to know others have survived through it!
I am trying to sip water, to eat small plain meals (boiled rice, toast, cereals).... I think I will invest in a travel band. Bring on 14 weeks :( !!!!

I threw up every day until I was 20 weeks. The only thing that helped was acupuncture. It was AMAZING!

Hubbythecatandme · 10/01/2014 17:21

OMG 20 weeks :s
expectingtwins : are you currently expecting twins or have you had twins?
I have been having very strong symptoms since 2 weeks after conception... hubby and I wouldn't mind having twins :)

i am 17 weeks pregnant and i have still got it Smile

Expectingtwins1975 · 10/01/2014 17:39

I'm expecting twins...due in June. Strong symptoms could be a sign of twins.

I found out quite early on was having twins (at 8 weeks) because I had ivf - but weirdly made me feel a bit better about being so ill and knackered and generally hopeless during first trimester.

Twins or just one - the first trimester sucks big time!

I think of them like buses - wait years for one to turn up then 2 come at the same time :)

I'm 13wks+2 and morning sickness is slowly fading. I can stomach having breakfast now which I'm really happy about too. MW say most sickness starts to disappear from around 14wks onwards and you start to feel more yourself. Since this is my first I had to experiment with all kinds of food to see what worked best, taste buds changed too. I found eating little and often worked for me and cracker breads as they're not too salty. Hope yours fades soon :)

Hubbythecatandme · 10/01/2014 18:23

Thank you mixi, I seem to have a constant funny taste in my mouth (like when you're hangover!) so I too enjoy eating different things like tea and lemon (never had tea for years before yuck, can't stand coffee now!).
Today has been better, I have eaten less but more often and that seems to have helped.
tyra: eek! :s
I really hope by week 14 it will have gone away... not too bad right now but all day today and yesterday has been really horrible :s
expectingtwins haha like the bus comparison! My gran had non identical twins but my mum was not one of them. I have been having very strong symptoms (this is my first baby but I knew pretty much 2 weeks after conception that I was preggers as I was constantly going to the toilets, my nipples were erect and sore all the time and I kept falling asleep during the day for no reason!!).
Twins would be nice, I don't mind, it would explain why I have had so many symptoms probably... Best of luck everyone! xx

mixi re: taste bud changing, I seem to be eating a lot more salty food and citrus based food too... maybe because taste buds need a kick??
Anybody else eating more flavoursome food?

Mine started at 7 weeks, mostly went away at 16 weeks. Still have the odd moment of nausea now at 24 weeks but haven't thrown up since 20 weeks.

SweetPea86 · 10/01/2014 19:10

I'm 26 weeks and still sick every morning and have days werei. Feel sick a lot.
I had it very serve from 5 weeks till 17 and then it did calm down. I really feel for you. I can't wait for the day when I'm not sick and smells are normal.

I could work for the police as a sniffer dog my sense of smell is that strong lol ......Bork

Hubbythecatandme · 10/01/2014 20:00

hahaha sweetpea I can smell every single dettol wipe that gets used downtairs when I am upstairs with the door closed, it's disturbing!
I think I have it less severe than some of my friends did, one friend had to be put on drip in hospital because she was keeping no food no liquid down, other friend could only eat cereals and orange juice and was vomitting all the time.
I feel nauseous most of the time but I have only actually been sick twice, the rest of the time is like being on a boat with very bad motion sickness....
I need to tell myself some people have it worse.
I hate feeling like this though!!!

Yeah, you will find that things taste completely different from what they used to. I still get that weird taste in my mouth, like sort of metallic but I find sucking on a boiled sweet or mint helps lots. If I'm close to the bathroom I give my tongue a good scrub and that takes the bad taste away instantly and for a while! I ate loads of citrus fruits too and now I eat lots of fruit which I love anyway :)
