Electric Blanket fear

Hi there, I'm 23 weeks now and everything all looks good, however I've got the fear that I've caused problems as I sleep on an electric blanket neatly every night for about 30 mins whilst it's on. The baby looks fine and the heart rate etc is all good but panicking as just read some dead flu things about emf's and electric blankets.
Is it ok ?
Many thanks

Oh I'm 13 weeks and sleep with mine on most the night! I'm scared now!

Windywinston · 08/01/2014 23:31

I suffer with a bad back so put mine on for an hour sometimes to ease pain. Did it when pg with DD and she's fine and am doing it in this pregnancy.

What have you read?

The risk is to do with overheating, similar to why you are advised not to use a sauna, jacuzzi etc. if baby is fine don't fret but maybe stop using it now to be on the safe side.

Omg how are you all cold enough to need an electric blanket?! I feel like I'm boiling alive most of the time, switched the heating off just now so it won't come on in the morning and I went to town at lunch today with no coat on and a short sleeved top - roasting!!

I sit in bed with mine on and a hot water bottle and I'm nearly 37 weeks and baby is fine. As long as your body isn't over heating you'll be fine. Your body works really well to maintain 37 degrees and as long as you don't feel overly hot or start sweating I don't think you have anything to worry about. The problem with things like saunas and hot tubs etc is that your body is totally surrounded by the heat and struggles not to get too hot. Don't worry and just enjoy being cosy and warm!

My husband thinks the stuff about avoiding electromagnetic waves is bollocks because we're surrounded by them all the time anyhow. I have no idea though! No point in panicking about what's already happened as baby is fine. And you're only using it for a short time each night. I'm sure people use heated car seats without a second thought.

Electromagnetic wave stuff is bullshit. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you everyone, feel much better for having your feedback. I have taken it off the bed though just to erase any chance of another late night panick! Thank you again all xx
