Baby being very quiet- how long do I wait for before ringing the hospital

Baby has been very active for past few weeks. Today haven't felt her move much since about 4 pm. There is the odd little bubbly feeling but not the massive kicking and punching that has been going on before. It has only been 4 hours but I am beginning to worry, do I call the hospital now or wait a few more hours. Just had a glass of cold water and lying on side hoping she will move.

How far along are you?

Just ring. It's always better to ring x

Pantygirdl · 08/01/2014 20:17

Sure all is well but I would call midwife now to stop yourself worrying.

CrispyFB · 08/01/2014 20:23

Call.. they won't mind - it's what they're there for!

stargirl1701 · 08/01/2014 20:24

Drink a very cold glass of water with ice and see if you get a reaction.

wifey6 · 08/01/2014 20:27

How far along are you?
What does baby normally respond to...orange juice, ice? Have a lie down & it wouldn't hurt to call the mw.
The maternity unit wouldn't mind you going in for some monitoring - in fact, many do recommend it to put your mind at rest.

Doctorbrownbear · 08/01/2014 20:28

Hav a cold drink and lie on your side with your hands on your bump... if nothing happens after half an hour ring triage and get them to monitor you.

TheNightIsDark · 08/01/2014 20:28

Try something sugary. Chocolate bar or something always got mine moving.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 08/01/2014 20:31

the thing that would always get the boys to move if I was worried was to have a lovely bath then to let the water out and stay in the bath. Once the water was gone they were at their most active.

However, I would say PHONE it will make you feel better. there is no use being worried at all you may as well check.

zinher · 08/01/2014 20:32

Had some more cold water and felt a very tiny kick. I will wait for half an hour and see if she moves some more. She is usually very active at this time.

Please don't wait and try the iced water etc... Call now and be prepared to go straight in. It's just not worth taking any chances.

sunshineandshowers · 08/01/2014 20:38

Don't ever for one moment feel embarrassed or that you are putting someone out. You and your baby are very important.

ThefridgeThefridge · 08/01/2014 20:39

I agree, don't wait just ring.

I had the same issue today. I'm 37 wks. I had a bath as soon as I started worrying but baby didnt move like normal.

So I put the music on my phone and laid it on my stomach which woke her up.

If it hadn't then I would have phoned. There is another thread from a couple of days ago where a mumsnetter went in because of reduced movement, thankfully everything was fine, but she was urging mums not to hesitate and just phone if worried as all the midwives were all lovely.

please phone.

zinher · 08/01/2014 20:48

Just called them up, they want me to have another cold drink, wait for hour to see if she moves and then to come in if she still doesn't move.

Well done x

Notawordfromtheladybird · 08/01/2014 20:53

Try not to worry. I couldn't feel mine once all day and went in. She was fine, just moved positions. I felt silly but at the same time I was relieved because she didn't move much for next 10 days and if I hadn't gone to the hospital, I would've thought the worst.

Lj8893 · 08/01/2014 20:58

Please ring.

My dd had a very traumatic birth ( she's fine now) but thinking back, her movement in the last few weeks of my pregnancy her movements were less frequent. Maybe if I had paid more attention and got monitored, her birth wouldn't have been so bad!

meg2106 · 08/01/2014 21:10

as its been 4 hours since, have a glass of cold water and lay on your left. You should go to triage if you feel nothing for 8 hours. This was taught in our antenatal class

zinher · 08/01/2014 21:14

Thank you everyone for the reassurance Thanks just felt her move about now. Soo relieved am sat here bursting into tears. Can't stop crying. So relieved. Still lying on side, dnt want to move as dnt want her to stop now.
Feel like this prenancy is driving me crazy. Always finding things to worry about.

You can still pop in to the unit for monitoring, OP. It might set your mind at rest. Thanks
