Hi Ladies, I have recently had my 20 week scan at which the sonographer discovered I had a 'second' placenta. She said it wasn't a problem but good to be aware it was there and we struggled to get any more information. I then came home and looked on google which of course was a silly mistake to make as I discovered a number of horror stories, I plan to discuss this with my midwife at my next appointment but in the mean time I wonder if anyone had this and could share their experience? Thank you

Hi it’s been long time since you posted. I’m sure you had your baby. I hope you had a safe and amazing delivery. I was wondering how it went? I got diagnosed at my 20th week as well. Can you please share your experience? Thank you.

@aurora1990 hi….. it was indeed a long time ago, so long ago that I had totally forgotten about this!! It didn’t affect my pregnancy at all, I can’t remember having another conversation about it with a HCP. In fact that pregnancy is now 10 years old and full of fun…. And attitude!! I did end up having a c section but that was because she was breech rather than any other reason.

I hope that the rest of your pregnancy goes well, enjoy it all. I used to get really annoyed when people told me it all goes so quickly, but it really does. When you are in the thick of it, it can feel like a lot but now mine are 8 & 10, and I feel quite nostalgic for when they were littler. The saying the days are long but the years are short rings so true. Wishing you all the best

Thank you so much for your beautiful reply. I’m really happy that you enjoyed your pregnancy. So happy you and baby are fine. If I may ask does the baby have any developmental or birth defect bcos I heard somewhere this type of placenta is an indication that the baby has some deformation etc? I have already three kids oldest being 9,7 and a nearly five years old. I enjoyed my previous pregnancies but never any of the labour. The first one I was induced bcos they said my water was so low when I did a scan for lack of baby movements at exactly 37 weeks. The induction was long and tiring. I lost a lot of blood too. Second one I had her in my living room bcos it was a sudden birth I suddenly just couldn’t move and get into the car we called the ambulance and was waiting them but the baby head was already out when they arrived. It was that quick and then they sent the midwife over she forgot some of my placenta/membrane and two days later I had huge pain and went hospital then was told I have to get to remove the members left inside of me I was shocked I had something remaining inside of me. The pain was so sharp got tested for infection as well. It was positive. My third was 2 weeks over my due date got induced but the induction was so painful I didn’t know where I was. Anyways this pregnancy I was shocked when they said I have this type of placenta. I was praying to have an easy about this time but I think we can’t always control. I’m however so thankful I have healthy children. That’s what matters haha.
