Low lying placenta -any experience?

I was told at my 34 week scan that the placenta is still a bit low (although apparently babies' head is descended beyond it, I don't quite understand the logistics). But apparently it needs to be 1-2cm higher in order for me to avoid a c-section.
They are scanning it again in 2 weeks and then I will speak to a consultant about it.
Has anyone had experience of this? I'm just wondering how flexible they will be if it hasn't moved. I really don't want a c-section.

Glad to help :)

My experience was actually so good that out of my NCT group, I was the only one who wanted another baby as all the VBs had been much worse! Am now pg with DC2 and have been told placenta is low again – I'm very happy with the CS option so am cool as a cucumber. Hope you will be too, whatever your outcome!

Hope you get on well today Sprite. I agree, good to get positive c section stories too, thanks Hubba. Luckily I can now go ahead and have my homebirth as originally planned, which is better for me as I have 2 other children so was a bit concerned about recovery time after c section.

I just got back from the scan. The placenta has moved "well up" from the cervix and all seems clear. I am much relieved.
I still have an appointment to see the consultant next week as they book you in regardless of the outcome but it should be fine now.
Did you meet up with a consultant afterwards Comfyonesie? I'm wondering what they will say.
Hubba, my vaginal birth with forceps last time was pretty traumatic but am hoping it will be easier this time since my body knows what to do.

I also had my scan today. ( I am almost 37 weeks), placenta has moved well out of the way. Very relieved too, the only problem I now face is a breech presentation ( it's been head down for the last 6 weeks and NOW it turns???). Hey ho! Sprites, very pleased for you too Grin

Well, I hope this thread provides some valuable anecdotal evidence to other women that placentas can move in time. I think the HPCs have to give you the worst case scenario with all the possible risks, and say prepare for a section because otherwise they would not be doing their jobs properly, but that's 3 out of 3 of us who had a good outcome against the odds! Hope your baby turns Ruey, that's really bad luck. Sprite, I did see the consultant straight after my scan (in fact he repeated the scan himself as they couldn't believe the placenta had moved enough in 4 weeks from its original positions touching the os). After looking through my notes, he said he was happy for me to go with my original plan of having a homebirth, so I'm very happy.

Congratulations Ruey, so pleased for all three of us! Yes this will be an encouraging read for anyone in a similar situation.
So funny that the consultant scanned you again.
Fingers crossed now the baby turns Ruey, it's always something...

Yes, I was thinking that three positive stories might be encouraging for future owners of low placentas! Good luck to you both for safe arrivals

Another good news story for the thread. Rescanned today at 32 weeks, placenta is now high and baby head down, all good to go!
