I thought my GP was rubbish before, v dismissive, didn't check baby heart beat until I insisted and then suggested I moisturise to help with my crippling back pain! He has lowered himself in my expectations today however but simply not fucking turning up for my 31 week check. The receptionist helpfully said someone should have rung me (but they didn't) and I would have to ring tomorrow to see if I could get a same day appointment!!!!!! I took the morning off work And now I have to do the same thing tomorrow! Not easy!! Arg!!! Am actually quite tearful about the whole thing - was looking forward to hearing bump's heartbeat again.. Sorry just needed to rant!

my gp is also rubbish, they refuse to pre book appointments and have to phone same day to be squeezed in, I phoned my mw tream who saw me the same day (when gp couldn't) and they were furious, they were going to speak to the surgery to make sure they understood their obligation of prr booking etc. but they've taken over my appointments so no longer have to go to gp. speak to your mw team and see if they'll dothe same for you

I've sat crying in the GPs office because I've had slight bleeding and he just said, 'hmmmm, yes, I'd only be worried if you were 30 weeks but I can see you're still stressed....' and wrote out another sickline. Didn't do a check-up, didn't even take my bp even though that's supposed to be monitored every two weeks...

I changed practise and have my first nurse appointment at my new practise this afternoon.

It's rubbish, isn't it?

Mine tried to give me a prescription for ibuprofen. I said 'are you sure?' he said yes, it was fine.

Thankfully a big red screen popped up also reminding him not this was not the best idea. Hmm

That is quite bad - it's recommended for use in other countries up to the third trimester but it's certainly off the list here, and that's quite basic knowledge!

Why are you seeing the GP and not the mw OP?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/01/2014 03:13

In saw my GP for Antenatal care with both of my other PGs. It was shit. The practice was very busy, you were herded like sheep. I'd go in, get my BP taken, have my bump measured and get chucked out. I was young and knew nothing and just accepted it. I NEVER got to hear wither of their heartbeats. This time I'm under the local MWs. They ROCK. I'd definitely ask to be transferred to the MWs if I was you. I'm sure you always have options. Don't put up with shoddy treatment. Sad

Santa some areas (like mine) do mixed care in pregnancy, shared between midwives and GPs. For me I see the midwife every other appointment and the GP for appointments in between

Santabroughtmethis · 10/01/2014 09:23

Crikey that's quite old school!

As someone else suggested if you'd prefer not to, don't see the GP and just the mw.
