When/Where should I get measured for Maternity Bra ? Also do I get to keep these boobs? Please?

I'm 14 weeks pregnant, and started off with modest sized breasts before pregnancy but they feel pretty massive and much more heavy now in comparison ! I have just been wearing sports bras so far (is that bad?) as underwire has been uncomfortable but now I'm thinking I need a maternity bra maybe ? I don't want to spend loads of money on maternity bras though and then grow out of them in a month or so.... I'm completely clueless on this topic and on where I should go to get measured/buy bras... (Am in the UK and live in London)

Also.....I love my new boobs...Smile. My DP hardly mentions them but I am fascinated with them and he teases me for going on about them ! Grin Someone please tell me they might stick around after pregnancy ?? (I know this is a long shot but I heard some women get bigger boobs during pregnancy and they stay larger rather than shrink back to your pre-pregnancy size)

I'd suggest buying new ones now, but make sure they have plenty of space for the band. My cup size hasn't changed much, but I've gone up about two band sizes as the bump grew.

I got a Bravado nursing bra second time round and it was the best thing ever. They come in sizes like S, M, L, XL etc. They do give you guidance for sizes but it was great as I used it after baby was born for feeding and it allowed for the massive fluctuation in sizes from when my milk came in and they were huge rocks to right up to when I'd be feeding for months and everything settled down. Lots of my friends used them too and said how comfy they were.

if your breasts are quite massive, as you say, then underwire is certainly not bad. You will actually appreciate the support it gives - as long as it's the right size. I didn't wear maternity bras and got rid of my non-wired nursing bras quite swiftly as well, as they gave me a sweaty unsupported monoboob.
So personally I would just buy normal bras in your current size. Best place where to get measured is Bravissimo, do NOT go to M&S or Mothercare.

I second avoiding M&S. They measured me as a 36E when I was pregnant - I was actually a 34D?! They said I'd grow into it!!

Hi - can I just check, I'm 11 weeks and nothing has changed about my boobs at all!! They were quite painful to start with but haven't grown at all. They're quite small as it is and I read that they grow the most in the first trimester. Is it silly of me to be worried about this??!

Lydiejo · 06/01/2014 15:44

My boobs went up a cup size during pregnancy and then another while nursing. It was fun since I've always had small boobs. Now they are just the same size as pre pregnancy. I haven't heard of anyone keeping their big boobs, unless you gain weight of course. Some women get even smaller Hmm

HazleNutt · 06/01/2014 15:45

everybody is different, no reason to worry just because your boobs grow/don't grow.

eepie · 06/01/2014 15:46

Thanks guys I will try Bravado will try and find a stockist and look into getting measured in Bravissimo if I have one nearby .... I say massive..they are not but they seem like it to me ! I'd say C cup ! haha. Underwire is just uncomfortable as they are still a bit sore....

I just found a website called www.hotmilk.com which has really pretty maternity lingerie and nursing bras..obviously will need to go and get measure first. They say get measured for first bra at 3-4 months (now for me) and then again at 7 months if you need. They have like 6 clasps at the back to allow for the band to grow which sounds good. And they have a sale on.....iiiiinteresting....

I'm 30 weeks and I've gone up from a 34b to a 36d - so a band size and a cup size. I've managed with primark sports bras as they are nice and stretchy and comfy (and only £4 each!)

I'm wondering what to do about nursing bras? When will I know what size I'm going to be?

I presume I might go back down to a 34 band size when the baby drops?

mrsmugoo · 06/01/2014 16:30

Sorry 36c not d (just the one cup size!)

post-baby, your ribcage is likely to go down in size, but boobs will of course go up first, but then settle down again. So don't go all crazy buying tons of bras the minute you're out of hospital, your size will likely change.
In my case, I was 32F before, up to 36G during pregnancy, 34GG when baby dropped, 34HH when milk came in and 32GG now DS is 6 months.
