Light brown discharge at 6 weeks

Hi there

I am 6 weeks pregnant following a previous miscarriage and fertility treatment (PCOS). Over the last 3 days I have been experiencing some light brown discharge when I wipe and also a small amount of brown mucousy spotting. Due to my history, this is making me quite anxious as this pregnancy is so previous. fortunately I haven't had cramps or any red blood at all. My doctor has said that while it isn't "normal", it isn't uncommon either and doesn't mean the end of the pregnancy. I can't help but worry though. Has anyone experienced this in a healthy pregnancy? I have other pg symptoms (fatigue, tender boobs, insomnia, slight nausea, food aversions, heightened sense of smell).

Thanks in advance

"Precious" not "previous"! There was nothing previous about this pg LOL

Yes! I know how scary it can be especially when you've had previous losses but I've had bleeding and spotting on and off throughout this pregnancy and everything is fine (touch wood). It started around 6 weeks and am now 26 weeks and being kicked in the bladder as I type.
I had 4 miscarriages (following lots of IVF) previous to this pregnancy (natural) and while spotting can be a sign of problems it can also be just one of those things which affects many, many women so all is most definitely not lost.
Have you been offered an early scan? It might give you some reassurance.
Good luck

Lizzie
Thanks so much for your words of reassurance! It genuinely means a lot. Congratulations on your pg. Yes, I am going in for a scan at 8 weeks. I'm hoping that I can keep calm and occupied between now and the scan. Thanks again Lizzie

Had in both pregnancies (to 20 weeks in first pg, to start of 2nd tri in second), and also have PCOS, so wonder if that is related?

Anecdotally, I went strictly low GI in second tri of pg #2 (apparently good for PCOS sufferers to reduce risk of geststional diabetes) and it completely stopped straight away. Probably coincidence but do wonder if it helped to balance hormones

Either way, all was well- DS is 2 and next one is imminent!

Well good luck for the scan. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thank you Squirrel. You are very kind to respond. How lovely for you that DC2 is imminent! That's a coincidence, I have been doing my best to do low GI since Nov - possibly one of the reasons I got pg! I haven't been sticking to it very strictly though over Christmas, time to adopt it with renewed vigour!

Hi Lucy, I had the same worries with my pregnancy at 8wks as I had a MC too previously. This time MW and GP said it was implantation bleeding which I was satisfied to hear as, like you, I had no cramps or pains. Had my 12wk scan last week and next day had a fair bit of brownish discharge and MW said because scan was fine there was nothing to worry about. She also said most brownish discharge is from the cervix being incredibly sensitive during pregnancy so the occasional small bleed may occur and what you're seeing is old blood. I'm now 12wks+5 and last few days I've had normal discharge so it's cleared up. I hope that's somewhat reassuring for you and I'm sure everything will be fine :)

Thanks Mixi. That's incredibly reassuring
