TMI! Green snotty discharge - 36 weeks

Hi, I'm 36+4 and just now when I wiped there's green snotty discharge on the tissue. It's in a clump IYSWIM.
What the hell is this? Should I be worried?

That sounds like beginning of a show, don't worry though as this could go on for a bit but best call the MW for a check up.

My last show was like light green snot, no blood or anything.

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 09:55

Oh bloody hell.
I'm at the midwife this afternoon anyway so I'll ask her about it then.
I've been getting cramps and period pains for the last week or so - this isn't related is it?!

Could be but it's all part of your body getting ready and could go on for a few weeks yet - or it could mean things are starting to move so good job you are at mw's.

Let us know how you get on today.

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 10:01

Thanks 4athome. I had a growth scan at 32 weeks which put the baby on the top percentile for all measurements but I know how notoriously inaccurate these scans can be so trying not to get my hopes up that this could be it!

It's so exciting isn't it! I had my son on New Year's Day and still on cloud nine Grin

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 10:04

Ooh congratulations! I'm very Envy of you right now - and slightly in awe at you - am I right in thinking this is no. 5?!

Sounds like your mucus plug. I got mine at about 37 weeks and had the cramps etc right up untill the day after my due date when I gave birth.

Good luck Thanks

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 10:10

Thank you lj.
I feel awful for getting a bit excited as I know technically the baby is still pre-term.

Yes 5th (and last) Grin

Sleep is soooo overrated Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 06/01/2014 12:11

Actually I think anything over 36 weeks is classed as full term.
But as others say, don't worry too much, you can go for weeks after a show.

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 14:15

I've just been to my midwife appointment and she said it could be my mucus plug or it could be an infection so she's sent a swab off to the lab.
She said it feels like the baby has turned breech so I'm going for a scan on Thursday and if he is breech they'll attempt to turn the baby. If they can't I'll be booked in for a c-section at 39 weeks.

Oh no, baby playing games already!

How do you feel about this? If baby is breach you can decline ECV if you wish and go straight to c-section. Might be worth doing your research and seeing what you are comfortable with.

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 16:44

I've had a good look into ECV this afternoon and think I've decided against it. The risks don't seem worth it to me and if baby is breech I think I'll just agree to the C-Section.
Terrified now - there's really no going back is there?!

OP posts:
4athomeand1cooking · 06/01/2014 17:00

I think I would feel the same about an ECV although you may have to stick to your guns as i have heard lots of stories of people feeling pressured into having it done.

I nearly came close to c-section this time too, it was shocking at first but I came to terms with it and found there were some benefits such as being able to plan, etc.

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 17:18

I know this probably sounds awful and petty but if the baby is breech, part of me is quite sad that I won't get to experience a vaginal birth. But I agree with you about being able to plan, etc. It's nice to know there will be a date set in stone for my baby and I won't just be hanging around the house for weeks over-analyzing every little twinge.
Have you ever had a c-section 4? I know lots of women undergo it every year but the thought of it is really scaring me. I'm having lots of stupid irrational thoughts like 'what if the spinal block never wears off?!'!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 06/01/2014 17:56

FWIW I would decline an ECV. There's a really sad thread on here about it. I'd rather be safe and have a CS.

PutOnAHappyFace · 06/01/2014 18:06

Hi I had a section with my second so it made me want a vaginal birth even more with my third. Not because of pain/surgery etc but because of the experience. I think it's natural to be disappointed but at the end of the day as long as you and the baby are safe at the end of it that's all that matters.

Oh and I know a few people who have been told their baby was breach and by the time they had been scanned the baby was head down. Good luck

Slh122 · 06/01/2014 20:53

Have done a lot of research this afternoon and have decided that I'm definitely going to decline the ECV. If on Thursday baby is breech and I'm booked for a c-section at 39 weeks, will they scan me again before the c section?
