'Breathe in through your nose...'

If I have to listen to one more fecking hypnosis/relaxation/yoga track which tells me to focus on my breathing by breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, I will spontaneously combust from pure rage.

I have not been able to breathe in properly through my nose for SEVEN MONTHS. I can't get enough air that way BECAUSE I AM PREGNANT, YOU ARSES. This is not relaxing.

As you were. Grin

Oh yes, the joys of pregnancy. I made a list of all of them, well, I started, but the paper was too short.

stares manically at 40+2 bump willing it to pop

Well.... You can achieve very good relaxation by breathing in through the mouth, and out through the mouth.... There is much gimmickery about breathing techniques, mainly to do with different professional groups trying to beat another in the battle of semantics for financial gain but it is all about creating a relaxed state that gives you a nice floaty buzz, and it can also be created by focusing on slowing the rhythm of the breathing down and keeping muscles around mouth, face, chest, shoulders and chest as relaxed as possible (because you can't tense your vagina/pelvis/bum etc if your mouth is open and relaxed).

I had the same problem. I had pregnancy rhinitis (sp?) but found that during labour I kind of sucked in through my mouth then blew out

well for the few hours I didn't have G&A, then I just puffed on that continuously!

Nothing to do with the thread but Manic waving to Humpty and her 40+2 bump hope you're generally ok!!

TobyLerone · 05/01/2014 08:38

I can never breathe properly through my (twice-broken) nose.

Are you ok, Humpty?
Have you tried taking deep breaths until you calm down?

elfycat · 05/01/2014 08:43

I had as broken nose that deviated my septum - I can rarely nose breathe and yet I can still meditate. And did so through my births but by my own methods.

Breathe in, breathe out. After 30+ years I didn't need to be told how, but just for you...

Breathe in through your mouth, breathe out through your mouth.

Julietee · 05/01/2014 10:15

I think they tell you to breathe in that way because it forces you to breathe slower. Which of course you can do by breathing in through your mouth!

waves at rockchick.

chases toby with broom.

Thanks all, v sweet of you, I did realise I could breathe in and out through my mouth. Wink

It's just that ALL the specifically for pregnancy ones say the same. You'd have thought someone would have considered it and just replaced with 'breathe in, breathe out'. It winds me up, which is kinda counter to the point of the exercise...

Never mind.
