Babygrows/Sleepsuits/Vests

Hi
I am expecting my first at the start of March and have a few baby clothes questions:

Why would you put the baby in a footless sleepsuit/baby grow? Should I be buying footed and footless? So far I've only bought footed.

Vests - do you put these on under Sleepsuits or just outfits?

Sorry if these are stupid questions but any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

I only ever use footed sleepsuits for bed . My two wear vests under sleepsuits and normal daytime outfits x long sleeve vests for winter , sleeveless or short sleeve vests for summer . I had a summer baby and even in lovely warm days , had sleeveless vest under short romper suits x vests always good in case of spillages/ leakages :)

You put vests under every garment- babies can't regulate their temperature very well so it gives them additional layer.Sleepsuits- i'd go for the ones with feet- DS has spent his first 3 months in sleepsuits as i found it too much faff to get him change into fancy clothes with buttons/ zippers only to be spewed on after every feed.

One more thing- babies clothes come in different sizes even if they claim to be the same, e.g primark and tesco 0-3 months will be smaller than mothercare 0-3 months so try to not to stick to 1 brand

Ask whatever you want, ther's no stupid questions, only stupid answers :)

I used vests / bodysuits (with the poppers under the bottom) under everything.

And I prefer the footed sleepsuits as that way I don't have to worry about socks coming off all the time.

I used vests all the time except when it was very very hot at night and always footed sleep suits as socks are a nightmare (mothercare sells something called sock-ons, which keep socks on but even they can be a faff).

I would also say that newborn size is not the same as 0-3 months, it's smaller. I had a small baby and 0-3 months clothes swamped her for ages but newborn was fine. However, if you have a bigger baby you may have no need for newborn sizes. I think it's worth getting 2 or 3 cheap newborn sleep suits just in case you have a petite baby. Vests don't matter so much if they're too big.

One other thing with sleep suits is to make sure they have the scratch mitt over the end, I think it is only Tesco (that I have found) who don't have this on their products. Even keeping on top of cutting my daughter's nails she still manages to scratch her face if she doesn't have the ends over! I was shocked at how long her nails were when she was born.

Yaaay thanks for this thread, I was wondering about all this myself! Our baby is due end of June and as I always get quite hot in summer months, I was worried if we put the baby in babygrows etc with feet, it will get too hot? Also will it get too hot with one of those sleeping bag things on?

ilovepowerhoop · 07/01/2014 08:26

You can get different togs of sleeping bag e.g. 0.5, 1, 2.5, 3.5, etc so you tailed the tog to how hot it is. I used 1 tog in summer (used a 0.5 tog abroad) and then 2.5tog in winter although in my day (!) they didn't do a 3.5tog as I would maybe have used that too.
